You can add Max—still labeled HBO Max in some places—to your YouTube TV membership, then connect YouTube TV as your provider in the Max app. The most dependable purchase route is YouTube TV → Profile → Settings → Membership. After buying, the YouTube TV family manager should activate Max using the Connect Your Provider option in the Max app or at max.com/login.
This guide is for U.S. YouTube TV subscribers. Add-on availability, interface labels, and prices can vary by account and billing provider, so confirm the current option and total at checkout.
Before you start
- Make sure you have an active YouTube TV subscription. Entertainment Plus requires a YouTube TV plan, according to YouTube TV’s add-on requirements.
- Use the Google account for the YouTube TV family manager, who manages membership and billing.
- Check whether you already pay for Max directly or through another provider. Adding Max through YouTube TV does not necessarily transfer or cancel an existing subscription, and overlapping subscriptions can mean duplicate charges.
- Have a device with the Max app, or use a browser at max.com/login, for provider activation.
Add Max through YouTube TV on a computer or mobile browser
- Go to tv.youtube.com and sign in with the Google account that manages your YouTube TV membership.
- Select your profile picture, then choose Settings → Membership.
- Look for Max, HBO Max, or Entertainment Plus. The listing depends on what is available for your account; do not assume a standalone Max option will appear.
- Select Add or the purchase option shown beside the service you want.
- Review the price, renewal terms, and any promotion, then confirm the purchase.
- Wait for the confirmation screen or email before trying to activate Max.
This is YouTube TV’s documented add-on route; see its instructions for adding or removing networks. Add-ons are billed through YouTube TV. The first charge may be prorated for the remaining portion of your current billing cycle, then the regular recurring charge applies.
Can you add it from a TV or phone?
On a compatible TV: Open the YouTube TV app, open the store icon near your profile picture, choose the network or bundle, select Add network, and confirm. The icon and labels differ among smart TVs, Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, and app versions. If the option is missing, use the browser steps above.

On iPhone or iPad: Use a browser at tv.youtube.com rather than relying on the iOS app to offer the add-on.
On Android: Some add-ons may not appear in the app, particularly when billing is handled through an app store or another partner. Try the browser route. YouTube TV notes that availability can differ by billing provider; carrier, internet-provider, and other partner billing can limit the choices shown.

Connect YouTube TV to the Max app
Buying through YouTube TV and activating Max are separate steps. YouTube TV is listed as a supported provider by Max. To connect it:
- Open or install the Max app, or visit max.com/login.
- Choose Sign In, then choose Connect or Connect Your Provider. Do not choose a new direct subscription if you already purchased access through YouTube TV.
- Search for and select YouTube TV as the provider.
- Sign in with the YouTube TV family manager’s Google account and follow the prompts.
- Create a Max account or connect the provider to an existing Max/HBO Max account if prompted. Then sign in to Max with the account details you set up.
On a TV, Max may show a QR code or six-digit code to complete the connection on another device. Max’s provider-connection instructions cover the app, browser, and TV activation options. If you already have a Max account, use the provider connection flow to link it rather than creating a second paid subscription.

Where should you watch: YouTube TV or the Max app?
Use YouTube TV for the live-TV service and any Max-related content YouTube TV makes available within its own platform. Use the Max app or website for the Max experience and its app-specific features. YouTube TV says the HBO Max component of Entertainment Plus includes access to the HBO Max website and app; that does not mean every Max title or feature will necessarily appear inside YouTube TV. Catalog presentation and features can differ, so the Max app is the safer place to look for the full Max catalog.
The two apps are not interchangeable: purchasing the add-on through YouTube TV does not remove the need to connect the provider in Max if you want to watch there.

YouTube TV’s page says the bundle has no free trial, although individual networks may have trial offers. Check the current details on the Entertainment Plus page.
- Standalone Max add-on: YouTube TV’s available choices can vary. Check your Membership screen rather than assuming a standalone listing is available.
- YouTube TV base plan: Its official help page showed $82.99 plus tax per month. See YouTube TV billing information and verify your own plan price.
- Max direct plans: Max listed U.S. prices of $9.99/month for Basic with Ads, $16.99/month for Standard, and $20.99/month for Premium. Features differ by plan; consult Max’s current plans and pricing.
If you want only Max and do not need YouTube TV’s live-TV lineup, compare a direct Max subscription with the full cost of YouTube TV plus its add-on. Entertainment Plus makes more sense if you also want STARZ and Paramount+ with SHOWTIME. If your priority is consolidated billing and you already subscribe to YouTube TV, adding an eligible option there may be more convenient.

Fix common setup and billing problems

| Max does not appear in Membership | Check that you are signed in as the family manager, then reload Settings → Membership in a browser. Check who bills your YouTube TV account; a partner billing arrangement may limit add-ons. Availability can also vary by account or location. If you already pay for Max directly
Before adding Max through YouTube TV, check the subscription provider in your Max account. Do not assume that a direct subscription will automatically transfer or stop when you connect YouTube TV. Follow Max’s provider-connection prompts to link an existing account, and check the old provider’s cancellation and end-date rules to avoid paying for overlapping subscriptions.
For a U.S. account, YouTube TV is available nationwide, but add-on and network availability may still vary by account and location. You can review YouTube TV’s location and network availability information.
