Add Hindi text in OBS by adding a built-in Text source, entering your wording, choosing a font that displays Devanagari on your computer, then positioning it in the scene. For a fixed label or message, this is the simplest method; use a file-backed Text source for copy you edit separately, or a Browser source for a custom HTML/CSS layout.
Before you start: confirm YouTube live access
YouTube’s live-stream guidance says a creator needs a verified channel and must not have had live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. Check YouTube’s current live-streaming requirements before scheduling a long broadcast, since platform rules can change.
Keep OBS running on a computer connected to the internet for this do-it-yourself setup. The text overlay is part of the OBS scene, so it appears in the stream output only while that scene is being sent to YouTube.
Add fixed Hindi wording with an OBS Text source
- Add the source: In OBS, go to the Sources dock, click +, and select the Text source option available for your system. OBS documents Text (GDI+) for Windows and Text (Freetype 2) for macOS and Linux. See the OBS Text Sources guide.
- Enter the Hindi text: Type or paste your wording into the source’s Text field. Check spelling, punctuation, and line breaks before going live.
- Choose a Devanagari-capable font: Select a font installed on the streaming computer that displays the characters you need. OBS lists platform defaults such as Arial, Helvetica, and Sans Serif, but does not guarantee that these fonts—or any particular computer configuration—will render Hindi correctly.
- Check the preview: Confirm that every character displays fully and that the text is legible at the intended stream size. Look for missing glyphs, unexpected spacing, clipping, or unwanted wrapping.
- Place the text: Drag the source in the OBS preview to position it and resize it as needed. Avoid covering important documentary footage, captions, or other information.
- Put it in front of the video: If the text is hidden, move its entry above the relevant video source in the Sources list. Source order determines which items appear on top. OBS explains adding, positioning, and ordering sources in its Sources guide.
Choose the editing method that fits the overlay
| Method | Best for | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Text source, typed directly | Fixed wording such as a title, channel label, or short message | Enter and format the copy in the OBS source properties. |
| Text source, read from file | Copy maintained in a separate text file | Enable Read from file in the Text source properties. Test edits and updates before relying on the setup; OBS’s documentation does not specify encoding details or a universal update interval. |
| Browser source | A designed web-based overlay or custom HTML/CSS layout | Add a Browser source, point it to a web page or local file, and set its width and height to suit the intended output. See the OBS Browser Source guide. |
Use a text file for copy you update separately
- Open the Text source’s properties and enable Read from file.
- Select the file containing the Hindi wording, then inspect the result in the OBS preview.
- Edit the file and verify in OBS that the displayed text changes as expected. The documentation does not establish a universal file-encoding rule or refresh interval, so test the exact file and workflow you plan to use.
Use a Browser source for a designed overlay
- Create or choose the overlay page you want OBS to display. A local HTML file is one possible route; a third-party overlay provider is not inherently required.
- In the OBS Sources dock, click + and add a Browser source.
- Set the source to the overlay URL or local file and enter a width and height suited to your intended output dimensions.
- Check the scene preview for Hindi character rendering, layout, and placement, and move the Browser source above the video in the Sources list if needed.
OBS describes Browser source as a browser embedded in a scene, with configurable viewport dimensions. A custom page gives you more layout flexibility than the basic Text source, but its appearance depends on the page or file you load.

Test the stream before leaving it live
- In OBS, inspect the complete scene and confirm that the Hindi text remains legible over the footage.
- Start a test or scheduled broadcast and check the preview in YouTube Live Control Room before starting the public stream. YouTube recommends testing and checking the preview.
- Monitor audio and video quality during the broadcast. A successful preview verifies the current setup at that time; it does not establish that a computer, internet connection, OBS configuration, or YouTube stream will remain uninterrupted indefinitely.
See YouTube’s live-streaming encoder guidance for current platform instructions. The cited OBS and YouTube materials explain source setup and monitoring; they do not establish a universal maximum 24/7 duration, uptime guarantee, or failover design for this workflow.
Troubleshooting Hindi text in OBS
- Hindi characters are missing or show as boxes: Choose a font installed on the streaming computer that supports Devanagari, then inspect the preview again. The OBS documentation does not certify a specific Hindi font or system setup.
- Text is behind the video: Move the Text or Browser source above the video source in the Sources list.
- Text is clipped or difficult to read: Resize and reposition the source in the preview, adjust line breaks, and check the scene at the output size.
- File edits do not appear: Confirm that the source points to the intended file and that Read from file is enabled. Test how the specific file updates in your OBS setup; the documentation does not specify a universal refresh interval or encoding behavior.
- The overlay works in OBS but not in the YouTube preview: Confirm that the intended scene is being sent to YouTube, then check the Live Control Room preview and stream quality.
- The broadcast stops while unattended: This workflow depends on the computer, connection, OBS configuration, and YouTube account. Check those components and current YouTube guidance; the cited materials do not promise uninterrupted continuous streaming.
