If you mean using an external microphone, mixer, or USB audio source in your YouTube broadcast, Larix Broadcaster for Android documents an experimental USB OTG route. Enable Advanced settings → USB Camera, restart Larix, connect a compatible device, and test the result before going live. This puts the sound into the program audio; the official materials reviewed do not document a separate viewer-selectable audio track.
What “external audio track” means here
An external source such as a microphone or mixer can feed audio into the live program, alongside its video. That is different from sending multiple audio tracks that viewers can select independently while watching. The Larix and YouTube documentation covered here describes the former workflow, not the latter.
Softvelum says its Android app can use “UVC OTG USB devices” as video and audio sources, but labels this support experimental. Whether it works depends on the particular Android phone and USB device.
What you need before setup
- An Android phone running Android 7.0 or later, the minimum listed in Softvelum’s Larix Broadcaster for Android overview.
- Larix Broadcaster and a USB OTG-compatible audio/video device. Depending on the phone connector, you may also need a USB-C OTG adapter. An adapter by itself does not guarantee compatibility: verify USB host and audio-capture support for the exact phone and device.
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled, plus access to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room to obtain the stream URL and key.
- Time for a private or unlisted test. YouTube says first-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours; that is activation timing, not a requirement of the audio setup.
Connect an external USB audio source in Larix
- Check the source and connection. Confirm that the phone supports USB host/OTG and that the connected device supports audio capture with Android. Check whether the source provides microphone-level or line-level audio, how many simultaneous inputs you need, and whether the device requires its own power. Compatibility can vary by handset, Android version, manufacturer, Larix version, and USB hardware.
- Enable USB Camera in Larix. Open Larix Broadcaster and go to Advanced settings → USB Camera. Enable the feature, then restart the app. Softvelum’s USB OTG instructions describe this as experimental support. The app may need you to tap its camera ON/OFF control to initialize the USB device.
- Get the YouTube encoder details. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select the stream. Copy the stream URL and stream key provided there. Use the RTMPS URL when Larix supports it; RTMPS encrypts the connection. Use the URL supplied by YouTube rather than assuming an endpoint.
- Enter the connection in Larix. Add the Live Control Room URL and key in Larix’s connection settings, taking care not to expose the key. Larix supports RTMP publishing, as noted in Softvelum’s Android overview. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance covers connecting an encoder using its stream details.
- Run a test broadcast. If appropriate, set the YouTube stream to private or unlisted, start Larix, and check that the USB source is active. Confirm that audio reaches the Live Control Room preview, then listen for silence, clipping, hum, distortion, and missing left or right channels before starting the actual event.
Audio settings and what to verify
Softvelum says Larix encodes Android audio as AAC outside WebRTC. YouTube’s live encoder specifications accept AAC or MP3 audio and recommend 128 Kbps for stereo. These are platform encoding details, not a guarantee that a particular USB source is selected or routed correctly by every phone.

Check the actual YouTube preview rather than relying only on a connected-device indicator in Android or Larix. A device can appear connected while its audio is silent, too quiet, distorted, or routed differently than expected.
Troubleshooting: no sound or unusable sound
- No USB source appears or there is silence: Re-seat the USB device and adapter, check that the phone supports USB host/OTG and audio capture, and respond to any Android USB permission prompt. After enabling USB Camera, restart Larix. Try toggling the camera ON/OFF control to initialize the device.
- The source connects but the YouTube preview is silent: Confirm the source itself is producing audio and that the cable, mixer output, and device power are correct. Check Larix’s source behavior and YouTube’s preview; the exact routing controls may vary by app version and hardware.
- Audio clips, hums, or distorts: Check the source’s output level and the connection chain, especially if connecting a line-level mixer output to equipment expecting a microphone-level signal. Test outside the event and adjust the source before streaming.
- Only one side of stereo is audible: Check the cable and source output, then verify both channels in the YouTube preview. The documented general OTG path does not establish a universal channel-routing control.
- YouTube does not receive the stream: Recheck the Live Control Room URL and key, and confirm that the key was entered correctly in Larix. Use YouTube’s supplied RTMPS URL when supported. Keep the key private.
- Your particular phone and USB device still do not work: Softvelum warns that some combinations may not work properly because USB OTG support is experimental. Test the exact handset, Android version, Larix version, adapter, and audio device together before relying on them for a live event.
Copyright and documentary-stream checks
Using an external input does not change the rights obligations for the material in a YouTube stream. Before broadcasting recorded documentary footage, music, narration, or other third-party material, make sure you have the necessary rights or permissions. Keep in mind that a successful technical test does not establish that content is cleared for broadcast.
