To caption a 24/7 YouTube real estate tour, enable captions for the individual stream in YouTube Live Control Room. You can use YouTube’s English-language automatic live captions if the option is available for your channel and the stream uses normal latency, or send captions from compatible software through embedded EIA 608/CEA 708 captions or an event caption-ingestion feed. YouTube does not document a special caption mode for continuous streams, so test captions through restarts and session changes.
Choose the right caption method
“Subtitles” is often used to mean captions, but the options described here represent spoken audio as text. If your tour has no narration, these tools will have little to transcribe; they do not add persistent room labels, property details, or other on-screen text.

YouTube’s professional caption instructions describe sending captions embedded in the video or using supported software over HTTP POST; captions have to be supplied to YouTube rather than assumed to appear automatically. See YouTube’s live caption requirements.
Turn on YouTube automatic live captions
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room.
- Open the stream’s settings and turn on Closed captions.
- Select Automatic captions and choose the video language. The cited YouTube guidance documents English-only live automatic captions.
- Use normal latency for this option, then start or preview the stream and confirm captions appear to viewers.
This is a per-stream setting, not a channel-wide switch. Availability can vary by channel, and poor audio, unsupported language, overlapping speech, or recognition errors can keep captions from appearing. YouTube’s feature and eligibility details are in its automatic captioning help page.

Send professional captions with an encoder or event feed
Embedded EIA 608/CEA 708 captions
- In the YouTube live setup, enable Closed captions and choose Embedded 608/708.
- Configure your encoder and caption workflow to send EIA 608 or CEA 708 captions along with the video.
- Check that the caption track is visible in a test stream. YouTube states support for up to four language tracks in 608/708 generally, but currently supports one caption track in its live workflow; plan around the currently supported single track.
Event caption-ingestion URL
- Enable captions in the event setup in Live Control Room.
- Set the event’s broadcast delay to 30 or 60 seconds, as YouTube specifies for this workflow.
- Copy the signed caption-ingestion URL and give it only to the captioner or compatible caption software that needs it. Treat it like a private credential.
- Use one caption feed for that stream entry point, then test end-to-end before relying on it live.
YouTube lists Total Eclipse, Case CATalyst, CaptionMaker, and StreamText.Net in its caption instructions. It specifies Eclipse/AccuCap 6.0.0.5 or greater, Case CATalyst BCS version 14.52 or greater, and CaptionMaker version 5.22 or later. StreamText.Net is described there as a cloud caption delivery system compatible with speech-to-text platforms. Check each vendor’s current compatibility and setup guidance before choosing a tool; YouTube’s list is not a guarantee of present-day support. Details: Live caption requirements.
Test captions across a continuous stream
- Use intelligible spoken audio in a test, and verify that viewers can see the captions rather than checking only the encoder preview.
- Monitor stream health and caption delivery after going live. YouTube recommends testing the encoder and monitoring stream health; its encoder guidance is at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Re-check captions after a restart or a change to the stream key or entry point. This is prudent operational testing for a 24/7 setup; YouTube’s cited help pages do not prescribe a dedicated continuous-stream caption procedure.
- Plan how sessions and recordings will be handled. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, while live automatic captions disappear after the stream and new captions generated for the video-on-demand archive may differ. Do not assume a single live caption track or archive will carry over indefinitely. See encoder setup and archiving guidance and automatic captioning guidance.
Troubleshoot missing or unreliable captions
