Update the title manually, connect the Text source to a file that you update, or build a Browser Source overlay with its own working now-playing data. OBS does not automatically detect the current song from every player or playlist.
Build the OBS scene with a logo and title
- Create or select a scene. Add your visual background first. OBS sources are layered: items higher in the Sources list appear in front of items below them. See the OBS Project’s Sources Guide.
- Add the logo. In Sources, choose + and add an Image source. Select the logo file. If you want the artwork to sit directly over the background, use an image with a transparent background. Resize and position it in the preview.
- Add a song-title label. Choose + and add a Text source. Type a title, or configure the source to read text from a file. Position and resize the label in the preview. OBS documents both typed text and file-backed text in its Text Sources guide.
- Check the layer order. If the logo or title is hidden, move its source above the background in the Sources list. Use a readable font, strong contrast, and enough space from the screen edges; these are practical design choices, not OBS guarantees.
Choose how song titles update
Type the title in OBS
Edit the Text source whenever the track changes. This is the simplest option when an operator is actively managing the stream, but the title will not change unless someone updates it.
Read the title from a text file
Open the Text source properties, enable Read from file, and select a text file containing the title. Change the file when playback moves to another song. OBS displays the file’s text; the operator or a separate process must keep that file in sync with what is actually playing.
Use a custom Browser Source overlay
A Browser Source can render a web page inside OBS, which makes it suitable for a custom title layout. The page still needs a working source of current-track data and an integration that supplies it. OBS’s Browser Source guide explains the source itself, not a music-player integration. Test track changes, missing metadata, long titles, non-Latin scripts such as Hindi or Punjabi, and reconnection behavior before relying on the overlay.

Set up playlist playback without confusing it with title updates
For one looping local file, use OBS’s Media Source and its loop property. For a list of tracks, OBS’s VLC Video source supports playlists, shuffle, and a Loop Playlist option, documented as on by default. VLC must be installed; the OBS guide specifies 64-bit VLC when using 64-bit OBS. See OBS Media Sources.
- Check that the audio from the selected source is reaching the stream by watching the OBS audio mixer.
- Keep the displayed title aligned with the item actually playing. A normal OBS Text source does not automatically read the current song from VLC.
- A loop setting repeats playback; it is not a guarantee of unattended, uninterrupted streaming.
Test before leaving the stream running
- Open Tools > Auto-Configuration Wizard in OBS and use it as a starting point for configuration. The exact options depend on the system and streaming setup.
- Check the audio mixer for activity while the track plays, and review OBS output settings.
- Run a short test stream and verify the picture, logo, title, audio, and title changes from a viewer’s perspective. OBS recommends testing before a real stream in its Quick Start Guide.
- For a continuous broadcast, arrange independent monitoring and decide how you will recover if playback, OBS, the computer, internet connection, or YouTube stream stops. No single OBS loop setting establishes 24/7 reliability.
Check music rights for an Indian digital stream
A song title shown on screen does not grant permission to stream the recording. PPL India distinguishes on-ground sound-recording use from digital use; it says its on-ground licence does not cover digital use and directs digital users to individual labels. Its FAQ states, “PPL does not issue license for usage of sound recordings on a digital platform.” See PPL India’s music tariffs and licensing rates and PPL India’s FAQ.

Recording rights are not the only consideration. IPRS describes licensing for online streaming platforms for its repertoire and/or payment of authors’ royalties for its members. The applicable requirements depend on the recordings, underlying compositions, platform, territory, and agreements. Review the relevant IPRS licensing information, contact the appropriate rights holders, and consult qualified Indian counsel about your specific operation. An on-ground business or terrestrial radio licence should not be assumed to cover an internet stream.
