How to Add a Logo and Channel Name to a 24/7 YouTube Cartoon Stream in OBS

Add image and text sources above your cartoon playback in OBS, then check the overlay and stream health in YouTube before leaving a broadcast running.

Add the logo and channel name as separate sources in an OBS scene, place them above the cartoon playback source, and check the result in YouTube’s preview before relying on the stream. The overlay is part of the video OBS sends to YouTube; it is not a YouTube channel setting.

What you need before adding the overlay

  • OBS installed on the computer that will run the stream. YouTube describes OBS as open-source encoder software available at no charge. YouTube’s encoder streaming guide explains how an encoder connects to a live stream.
  • A logo image file and the exact channel name you want viewers to see.
  • The cartoon playback source you intend to stream, plus permission to broadcast that material. An OBS setup does not grant copyright or rebroadcast rights.
  • A YouTube live stream and its stream URL and key, which you will enter in OBS. Treat the key as secret: YouTube describes it as the stream’s password and address. Manage live stream settings.

Add the logo and channel name in OBS

  1. Create or select a scene. In OBS, use the scene that contains the cartoon playback, or create a scene for the broadcast. OBS interface labels can vary by version, so check the current application if a control is named differently.
  2. Add the cartoon playback. Use the source that plays your cartoon recording as the underlying visual. Confirm that it appears in the OBS preview before layering anything over it.
  3. Add the logo image. Add an image source for your logo file. Resize and position it in the preview. Keep it within the visible frame and away from important cartoon details.
  4. Add a text source for the channel name. Enter the name exactly as you want it displayed, then set its position and size in the preview. Choose a color and treatment that remains legible against the changing scenes in the cartoon.
  5. Check source order. The logo and text need to sit above the cartoon source in the scene’s source list; otherwise the cartoon can cover them. Adjust the order if either overlay disappears behind the video.
  6. Check the complete frame. Look at the overlay at the intended output size. Verify that neither element covers important content and that both remain visible through any scene changes you plan to use.

YouTube says encoder-based streams support overlays, and identifies OBS as encoder software. The image and text are composed into the outgoing stream by OBS, rather than added later by YouTube. See YouTube live streaming tips.

Connect OBS to YouTube and test the overlay

  1. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create a stream or select the one you intend to use. Copy its stream URL and stream key.
  2. Enter the connection details in OBS. Open OBS’s streaming settings, select the YouTube connection method offered by your version, and enter the stream URL and key if prompted. YouTube’s live stream settings guidance describes the URL and key.
  3. Send a test signal before the real broadcast. Start the encoder and inspect YouTube’s preview. Check that the logo and name are present, correctly positioned, and readable, and that the cartoon’s audio and video are working.
  4. Check stream health before leaving it running. YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring the stream’s audio and video quality. Use an unlisted test when that suits your setup and audience. See YouTube live streaming tips and encoder settings and testing recommendations.
  5. Keep the key private. Do not publish it or share it with people who should not be able to broadcast to your stream. Reset it in YouTube if it is exposed.

Settings and checks for a continuous broadcast

Choose an OBS output resolution, frame rate, and bitrate that your computer and internet connection can sustain. YouTube provides recommended encoder settings and advises testing; follow its current guidance for the resolution and frame rate you select rather than assuming one bitrate fits every stream. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance.

  • Match the output to the cartoon’s source quality where practical; a higher output setting cannot restore detail absent from the source.
  • Watch the YouTube preview for dropped or unstable video, audio problems, and overlays that become hard to read against particular scenes.
  • Consider how the stream will recover if the computer, OBS, or network connection stops. A successful test confirms the setup at that time; it does not establish uninterrupted 24/7 operation.
  • Do not assume one continuous 24-hour broadcast will be archived in full. YouTube’s encoder guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that statement does not establish the same guarantee for a 24/7 stream. If keeping a copy matters, verify current archive behavior and plan separate recording or segments. YouTube’s encoder guide.

Copyright and YouTube policy still apply

Adding your channel branding does not change the rights status of the cartoon. Before streaming, confirm that you hold the necessary rights or permission for the video, soundtrack, and any other material included. The title does not identify a particular cartoon or license, so no rights conclusion can be made for your chosen content. YouTube’s live streaming guidance is a useful operational reference, but it does not substitute for permission to broadcast copyrighted material.
