To accept crypto from viewers, either publish a wallet address or QR code for direct transfers, or use a hosted payment link, button, or widget. In both cases, specify the exact cryptocurrency and blockchain network, secure the receiving wallet, test the payment flow, and check the streaming platform’s current rules for external links. For personal support, “crypto tip” or “payment” is usually more accurate than “charitable donation.”
Choose how viewers will pay
| Route | How it works | Main trade-offs |
|---|---|---|
| Direct wallet address or QR code | Display a public receiving address or QR code in a channel panel, profile, or on-screen graphic. | Few setup steps, but you manage address and network instructions, transaction records, wallet security, volatility, and any conversion. |
| Hosted payment link, button, or widget | Configure a payment page with a provider, then share its link or add its button or widget where the platform permits. NOWPayments documents donation tools for streamers and other creators (NOWPayments donation tools). | A hosted flow may be easier for viewers, but check supported assets and networks, fees, custody, settlement, data collection, eligibility, and provider terms. Availability is not guaranteed in every country. |
| Platform-native payments | Use a platform’s own monetization features where available. Twitch, for example, describes Bits as virtual goods viewers use to Cheer (Twitch Creator Camp: Bits and subscriptions). | These can keep support within the platform. Twitch says Bits avoid some chargeback and payment issues associated with third-party donations; available features and payout options can vary by region. |
Compare options on the asset and network supported, total fees, control of private keys, settlement and conversion, viewer friction, regional availability, alerts, and refund or dispute handling. A payment provider’s service fee is not necessarily the full cost: the blockchain network can charge a separate fee.
Set up a crypto payment method
- Choose direct wallet or provider. With a direct transfer, you control the receiving wallet and its records. With a hosted link or widget, review how payments reach you and whether the provider converts or settles them in another asset.
- Name the asset and network precisely. State both wherever you publish payment instructions. The same token may exist on multiple networks, and the viewer must send it using the network that matches your receiving instructions.
- Secure the destination. If using a provider, configure its payout wallet and understand who controls the keys. NOWPayments describes its service as non-custodial: it says it does not store funds or hold users’ wallet private keys (NOWPayments on non-custodial payments). That leaves you responsible for protecting wallet access and recovery material. Never share a seed phrase or private key. A separate receiving wallet may suit your security practices.
- Publish the payment instructions. Place the address, QR code, or hosted link in an appropriate channel panel, profile, or graphic. Check the platform’s current external-link policies before adding it; rules are not universal.
- Test the flow. When practical, send a small amount before promoting the method widely. Confirm that the asset and network are correct and understand what counts as a completed payment. Do not promise an on-stream alert unless you have verified that your provider and overlay work together.
- Keep records. Record dates, amounts, asset and network, transaction IDs, fees, relevant value records, and any later conversion or disposal.
Understand fees, confirmations, and risk
Costs can include a provider’s service fee and a blockchain network fee. NOWPayments says network fees vary with the blockchain, network load, and desired confirmation speed (NOWPayments fee explanation). Check the provider’s current terms for your configuration rather than treating an advertised rate as a universal crypto fee.
Confirmed blockchain transfers are generally irreversible; NOWPayments’ terms describe this for payments made through its service (NOWPayments terms of service). An incorrect address or network can make funds difficult or impossible to recover. Make instructions easy to verify, and avoid asking viewers to send a token over a network you have not confirmed can reach your wallet.

A stablecoin may reduce exposure to some price fluctuations, but it is not risk-free: issuer, network, liquidity, and depeg risks remain. NOWPayments lists stablecoins among supported asset categories and presents them as an option for avoiding volatility; that is the provider’s description, not a guarantee (NOWPayments supported coins).
Use the right word: tip, payment, or charity donation
If a viewer is supporting you personally, call it a tip or payment to the creator. Do not describe it as a charitable donation simply because you later intend to pass the money to a charity. Twitch says money given to a streamer who subsequently promises to donate it is not considered a charitable donation or tax-deductible by Twitch; it directs creators to its Charity tool or systems where viewers give directly to the charity (Twitch Charity).
