Sony says Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the final MCU release before Avengers: Doomsday. Its post-credits scene reportedly places Spider-Man somewhere in space, but that tag has not been confirmed as a setup for either film.
What is confirmed about the connection?
Sony identifies Spider-Man: Brand New Day as the fourth Tom Holland Spider-Man film and says it is the last MCU release before Avengers: Doomsday. That establishes a release-order connection, not proof that one movie’s plot directly continues in the other. Sony’s official film page and FAQ describe Brand New Day as taking place four years after Spider-Man: No Way Home.

There is also a confirmed creative overlap. Writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers said they were involved with the Avengers movies. Sommers told TheWrap, “We’re happy to say we are involved with the Avengers. We can’t really say much more than that.” Their involvement connects the films’ writing teams, but does not establish that a particular plot point carries over. TheWrap reported their comments on August 7, 2026.
What does the post-credits scene show?
The Los Angeles Times reports that the tag features Ned’s Spider-Man tracking app changing Spider-Man’s location from “unknown” to somewhere in outer space. The report describes what the scene shows; it does not identify the reason Spider-Man is there or confirm which upcoming movie, if any, the scene leads into. The Los Angeles Times’ July 30, 2026 explainer discusses possible interpretations.

Which film could the space-tracker tag point to?
The tag has three reasonable readings, none confirmed by the cited coverage:
| Possible meaning | What supports it | What remains unknown |
|---|---|---|
| A setup for Avengers: Doomsday | Brand New Day is the final MCU release before Doomsday, and the official synopsis describes heroes from three universes on a collision course. | No source establishes that the space location refers to Doomsday or explains how Spider-Man would connect to its story. |
| A setup for Avengers: Secret Wars | The Los Angeles Times also raises Secret Wars as a possible destination. The 2015 comic storyline involved Doctor Doom and multiverses colliding, being destroyed, and merging. | The comic is background, not confirmation of the movie’s plot; the tag does not name Secret Wars. |
| A general tease of Spider-Man’s next appearance | A location reveal can signal that the character’s story continues beyond Brand New Day. | The tag does not identify the next project or confirm that the location is a direct plot clue. |
Disney’s official Avengers: Doomsday page describes a collision involving heroes from three distinct universes and lists December 18, 2026 as the release date. That multiverse premise makes a connection plausible, but it does not prove that the space-tracker scene depicts the same event.
How does this fit Peter Parker’s story?
Sony says Brand New Day takes place four years after No Way Home, following Doctor Strange’s spell that made the world forget Peter Parker. Its listed characters include Jean Grey and Bruce Banner/Hulk. Those details provide context for the film’s cast and timeline, but do not establish what brings Spider-Man into the space-tracker tag or whether he meets the Doomsday heroes.
Is Tom Holland confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday?
The available reporting cited here does not resolve whether Holland appears in Avengers: Doomsday. The space-tracker scene and the writers’ involvement are not confirmation of his casting, so treat claims that he is—or is not—in the film as unverified unless an official announcement establishes it. TechRadar likewise describes the connection as unknown ahead of the film’s release. TechRadar’s July 31, 2026 ending explainer covers the unresolved ending.
What the announcements do—and do not—tell us
The confirmed facts are narrow: Brand New Day comes immediately before Doomsday in the MCU release sequence, the films share writers, and the reported end-credits tag places Spider-Man somewhere in space. The tag may point to Doomsday, Secret Wars, or another future appearance, but none of those interpretations is established. Marvel Japan’s official teaser announcement quoted director Joe Russo saying “映画を観れば、すべて納得する,” roughly translated as “When you see the movie, it will all make sense”; the English wording is a gloss, not an official English translation. Marvel Japan published the announcement on July 20, 2026.
