There is no fixed electricity figure for a 24/7 4K 60fps YouTube Live loop: it depends on the average wall power of the computer or encoder that runs it, plus any peripherals you include. Measure that setup, then calculate daily units (kWh) = watts Ă— 24 Ă· 1,000. For example, a hypothetical 100 W setup uses 2.4 kWh a day, or 72 kWh in 30 days. Multiply the measured kWh by your applicable electricity tariff to estimate the energy-only charge.
Calculate the electricity use from your actual setup
In India, one electricity “unit” is one kilowatt-hour (kWh). The key input is the encoder setup’s average power draw at the wall—not the stream’s resolution label by itself.
- Measure average wall power in watts. A plug-in electricity meter can measure the equipment over a representative period. Measure the full setup you want to cost: for example, the computer or encoder, and optionally its monitor, router, capture equipment, or other peripherals. Be clear about what is included.
- Calculate daily units: average watts Ă— 24 Ă· 1,000.
- Calculate a 30-day total: daily kWh Ă— 30.
- Estimate the energy charge: kWh Ă— your applicable tariff in rupees per kWh.
For illustration only, a hypothetical 100 W setup running continuously uses 2.4 kWh per day and 72 kWh over 30 days. At a tariff of T rupees per kWh, the energy-only component for that 30-day period is 72 Ă— T rupees. This is arithmetic, not a measurement or a typical-device estimate.
Your total bill may also include fixed charges, tariff slabs, taxes, or other adjustments. There is no single India-wide household tariff that can support one universal rupees-per-day estimate; use the rate and billing rules applicable to your connection.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Does 4K60 bitrate tell you how many units the encoder uses?
No. Bitrate measures outgoing data per second, not electrical power. YouTube’s current live-encoder guidance recommends 35 Mbps for 4K/2160p at 60fps when using AV1 or H.265, and 50 Mbps for H.264; it also identifies constant bitrate encoding for RTMP/RTMPS and frame rates up to 60fps. Those settings describe the stream sent to YouTube, not watts consumed by your equipment. YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
YouTube says it transcodes an incoming live stream into different output formats for viewers, rather than requiring the creator to send a separate rendition to each viewer. That does not change the need to measure the creator-side encoder if you want its electricity use.

Google’s HLS documentation says HEVC can generally provide 25% to 50% more compression than H.264 at the same video quality. This can affect bitrate choices, particularly for 4K, but the documentation does not establish a corresponding power saving on your particular encoder. A lower bitrate is not a guaranteed amount of electricity saved. Google for Developers: YouTube HLS ingestion.
Keep encoder electricity separate from viewer electricity
The calculation above is for the creator’s running encoder and whichever local peripherals you include in the measurement. It does not include electricity used by viewers’ screens, playback devices, or networks. A 2021 USENIX study measured YouTube 360-degree video playback on a Pixel 2 connected to a power monitor; it concerns viewer-side phone playback and cannot establish the draw of a desktop or dedicated encoder running a 4K60 live loop. Compare a local encoder with a cloud loop service
A local computer gives you direct control over the hardware and content, but its electricity cost depends on its measured wall power and your tariff, and it must remain running to encode. A cloud service moves the continuous loop off your home equipment; compare the service price and billing period against your measured local energy cost, and weigh recovery, setup, monitoring, quality options, and hardware control.
StreamNeo is the first option to consider for a managed YouTube loop: it runs uploaded videos from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day.
