Yes—but YouTube receives the live encoder feed; the encoder or streaming service must supply and loop the prerecorded video. YouTube documents 4K/2160p at 60 fps ingest. Whether a stream can run unattended and recover from interruptions depends on the workflow you choose, not on a promise that every YouTube Live stream will play continuously.
What “continuous 4K/60 playback” requires
A prerecorded file does not play directly from YouTube Live. You create a live stream, then send its stream URL and key from an encoder that can play the file and keep sending video. To repeat a video, that encoder or service also needs a loop function. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains how to create a stream and connect an encoder: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
If you have never enabled live streaming on your channel, YouTube says activation can take up to 24 hours. Set up and test the workflow before the time you need to go live.
Choose how to keep the video running
The key distinction is between sending a compatible 4K/60 feed and continuously replaying your particular file. Check both before choosing a workflow; YouTube’s encoder list names products and capabilities but does not establish every product’s file-format support, plan terms, cost, or guaranteed uptime.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- StreamNeo — cloud service. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Its flat price per slot is the same at every supported upload quality, up to 4K 60fps, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream and one free first day per account. StreamNeo streams to YouTube only. See StreamNeo.
- Local software encoder. A computer and encoder software can avoid dedicated encoding hardware, provided they can play the file, sustain the target settings, and keep sending a stable upload. Confirm that the software can loop the file and continue unattended for the full intended duration. A computer sleep, software crash, power loss, or home internet interruption can stop the feed.
- Dedicated hardware encoder. YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production-value events, but the cited guidance does not verify a particular consumer model for looping prerecorded files continuously at 4K/60. Before buying, verify file input, codec, sustained 4K/60 support, looping, unattended operation, and current availability.
- Other cloud encoding services. YouTube’s verified encoder page lists Gyre as a cloud service for 24/7 prerecorded streams, including 4K at 30/60 fps, and lists AWS Elemental MediaLive for live streaming up to 4Kp60 HEVC. Those listings do not establish current plans, file requirements, costs, or that MediaLive is a simple file-looping solution. Confirm the details with the provider. See YouTube’s encoder guide.
Set the YouTube ingest correctly for 4K/60
Use YouTube’s current encoder settings as the target for the codec you actually send. These are configuration recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular computer, network, or service can sustain them.
| Setting | YouTube’s documented guidance |
|---|---|
| Resolution and frame rate | 4K/2160p at 60 fps is listed as an ingest mode. |
| Codec | RTMP/RTMPS supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 in the listed settings. |
| Bitrate at 4K/60 | For AV1/H.265, the listed minimum-to-maximum setting is 10–40 Mbps. For H.264, the recommended setting is 35 Mbps. |
| Rate control | CBR. |
| Keyframe interval | Recommended: 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds. |
| Latency | 4K does not offer the low-latency option; YouTube sets 4K streams to normal latency. |
These settings are from YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions. Match the bitrate to the ingest codec, and make sure your sustained upload capacity can carry the video reliably. A source file’s 4K/60 label alone does not prove that the outgoing stream is being sent at 4K/60; check the live preview and stream health.

Choose a transport protocol
YouTube recommends RTMPS for encoder ingest. HLS is another option, including for HDR or codecs not supported over RTMP, but YouTube notes that segmented delivery has higher latency.
For HLS, YouTube specifies TS segments 1–4 seconds long, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, and HTTPS POST/PUT. Use HLS only if your encoder or service supports the required workflow. See YouTube’s HLS setup requirements.

Test the whole file-to-live path
- Create the YouTube live stream and connect the encoder using the stream URL and key. Treat the key as a credential: do not publish or share it.
- Use a representative portion of the actual recording, including its typical motion and audio, rather than testing only a static frame.
- Set the encoder to the intended resolution, 60 fps, codec, bitrate, CBR, and keyframe interval. Enable looping in the encoder or service if the workflow needs to repeat the file.
- Start a private or otherwise appropriate test stream and inspect the YouTube preview. Confirm the stream is accessible and reports the intended resolution and frame rate.
- Monitor YouTube’s stream health and listen to the audio while checking video quality. YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring audio and video. Its guidance is at YouTube live streaming tips.
- Test the complete intended duration and recovery behavior where possible. A short successful test does not establish that a workflow will run unattended for a much longer period.
- Keep a local recording if you need an archive; do not rely solely on YouTube’s live archive.
Understand the archive limit separately from stream duration
YouTube automatically archives 2160p streams, but warns that streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. That is an archive caveat, not a stated maximum duration for broadcasting. If preserving the full program matters, keep a local recording as a backup. See YouTube’s archive guidance.
Copyright and reused-content checks for documentary footage
Before looping a documentary or compilation, make sure you have the necessary rights or permission for the video, soundtrack, stills, and any other included material. A video being prerecorded or streamed continuously does not itself establish that you may rebroadcast it. Review YouTube’s applicable copyright rules and channel monetization policies for your specific content; do not assume that permission to upload a file guarantees that a channel or stream will qualify for monetization.

Troubleshoot common failures
- The stream will not start: confirm that live streaming is enabled, that the stream URL and key are entered correctly, and that the encoder is actually sending. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
- The live feed is not 4K/60: check the encoder’s output resolution and frame rate, then check the YouTube preview and stream health. Confirm that the selected codec’s bitrate and keyframe settings match YouTube’s guidance.
- The picture stutters or drops: check the sustained upload capacity and encoder load against the chosen bitrate and source settings. Test with representative motion; a static test image may not reveal problems.
- The video plays once and stops: enable looping in the encoder or service. YouTube Live does not make every incoming file repeat automatically.
- The stream stops when unattended: identify whether the computer slept, the encoder closed, power failed, or the network dropped. A local setup depends on those components remaining available; use a workflow with recovery behavior suited to the duration you need.
- The live stream is present but no complete archive appears: check the duration. YouTube warns that streams over 12 hours may not be captured; keep a local recording for an independent copy.
