In the U.S., Netflix’s advertised monthly prices are $8.99 for Standard with ads, $19.99 for Standard, and $26.99 for Premium. These prices were verified on August 18, 2026, and are before any applicable taxes. Your bill may differ if you subscribe through a provider bundle or another third party.

Netflix plans and prices

Plan Monthly price 12-month equivalent At a glance
Standard with ads $8.99 $107.88 1080p streaming with advertising
Standard $19.99 $239.88 Ad-free 1080p streaming
Premium $26.99 $323.88 Ad-free 4K/UHD with HDR and spatial audio

The annual figures are calculations of 12 monthly payments, not discounted annual subscriptions. Netflix says it bills monthly on the date you started your membership. Applicable taxes may be added. Check Netflix’s U.S. plan page for the live prices before signing up.

Netflix currently displays these three plans for U.S. sign-ups; Basic is no longer listed as a plan new customers can choose. If you have a legacy or provider-billed account, check the plan options shown in your own account.

What each plan includes

Feature Standard with ads Standard Premium
Ads Yes No No
Maximum picture quality 1080p 1080p/FHD 4K/UHD and HDR, with compatible content and equipment

Extra members Not eligible Up to 1 in supported markets Up to 2 in supported markets
Spatial audio Not listed as a plan feature Not listed as a plan feature Included

Netflix’s plan details can vary with market, billing arrangement, and account eligibility. For the current ad-supported plan limits, use the live comparison shown during sign-up rather than assuming they match another tier. Netflix says most titles are available with ads, but some are unavailable because of licensing restrictions; a lock icon may appear beside those titles. Some older devices also cannot use the ad-supported experience if their software cannot be updated. See Netflix’s ad-plan guidance.

  • TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.

Stream limits count devices watching at the same time; they are not a cap on how many devices can sign in. Profiles are separate personal viewing areas, while an extra member is a paid slot for an eligible person outside your Netflix Household. These are different things. Netflix explains the distinction between simultaneous streams and devices.

Which Netflix plan should you choose?

  • Choose Standard with ads if the lowest direct price matters most, you can tolerate commercial breaks, 1080p is enough, and you do not need an extra-member slot. It is not a free plan.
  • Choose Standard if you want ad-free viewing, two simultaneous streams are enough, and 1080p meets your needs. It costs $11 more each month than the ad-supported plan.
  • Consider Premium if three or four people in your household regularly watch at once, you have a compatible 4K/HDR setup, or you value spatial audio and more download-device capacity. It costs $7 more per month than Standard.

For documentaries, the practical choice depends less on the label than on how you watch: if you usually watch alone on a laptop or 1080p television, Premium’s higher resolution and extra streams may not add much. If several household members watch concurrently—or you have a 4K display and want compatible documentaries in 4K—Premium may justify the difference.

Extra-member costs and sharing outside your household

People who live outside your Netflix Household generally need their own account or an eligible extra-member slot. Netflix’s current U.S.-dollar information lists these extra-member prices, where available:

Base plan and extra member(s) Monthly total before taxes
Standard + 1 ad-supported extra member $27.98
Standard + 1 ad-free extra member $29.98
Premium + 1 ad-supported extra member $34.98
Premium + 1 ad-free extra member $36.98
Premium + 2 ad-supported extra members $42.97
Premium + 2 ad-free extra members $46.97

Extra members cannot be added to ad-supported plans. Availability and price depend on country, package, billing method, and account eligibility; confirm the amount offered in your account. Extra members must be activated in the same country where the account was created, and accounts billed through some third-party packages may not qualify. Read Netflix’s Household and extra-member rules before counting on this option.

Is Netflix Premium worth $26.99?

Premium costs $84 more per year than Standard, or $216 more per year than Standard with ads, based on 12 monthly payments. The upgrade is easiest to justify when you will use its benefits: 4K/HDR on a compatible setup, up to four simultaneous supported streams, spatial audio, or downloads on up to six supported devices.

Paying for Premium does not by itself guarantee 4K playback. The title, streaming device, TV, software, ports, and cables must support the format, and the connection must be reliable. Netflix cites a steady connection of 15 Mbps or higher for Ultra HD in relevant guidance. Check its 4K/HDR requirements before upgrading. If you mostly watch on a phone or 1080p screen, have limited bandwidth, or rarely stream concurrently, Standard may be the better value.

Other costs that can change your total

  • Taxes: Netflix says taxes may be added depending on where you live. There is no single U.S. after-tax price; the final amount varies by jurisdiction.
  • Internet service: The membership does not include broadband. Your provider’s price and data limits are separate.
  • Devices: Netflix works on supported TVs, streaming players, consoles, cable boxes, phones, tablets, and computers; a special Netflix box is not required. But you may need a compatible device or display if you do not already have one. Some older TVs and streaming devices may no longer be supported. Check Netflix’s device guidance.
  • Mobile data: Streaming over cellular may use your carrier allowance or trigger separate charges. Netflix estimates up to 0.3 GB per hour on Low, 0.7 GB on Medium, 1 GB for SD, 3 GB for HD, and 7 GB for Ultra HD. See Netflix’s data-use estimates.
  • Bundles: A phone, internet, cable, or other package may include Netflix or bill it on different terms. Check the provider’s offer and your Netflix account; bundle eligibility and features can differ from direct subscriptions.

Sign up, change plans, or cancel

To subscribe directly, go to netflix.com/signup, choose a plan, create an account with an email address and password, and enter a payment method. Netflix says iPhone and iPad users complete sign-up in a mobile browser rather than directly in the iOS app.

Netflix says members can change plans or cancel online. Billing is monthly on the account’s signup date; a plan change can affect the next amount or billing timing, and the exact treatment may depend on your account and payment method. If a provider bills you, you may need to manage the subscription through that provider. See Netflix’s billing and membership help.
