At Jio’s general estimate for HD video, uninterrupted viewing would use up to about 72 GB a day or 2,160 GB over 30 days. That is a planning calculation, not a measurement of a particular recorded class stream. Actual use depends on the quality delivered by the platform, how long the stream plays, and other devices using the broadband connection.
Estimated data use at different video qualities
Jio gives general estimates for video streaming ranging from up to 0.3 GB per hour at low quality to up to 7 GB per hour at Ultra HD. Multiplying each hourly figure by 24 gives a day; multiplying it by 720 gives a 30-day month. Jio cautions that usage can vary by application or website, and automatic quality can depend on data speed. These figures are therefore useful for scale, not a guarantee for your class stream. Jio’s video-data guidance
| Assumed quality | Jio general estimate per hour | 24 hours | 30 days |
|---|---|---|---|
| Low | Up to 0.3 GB | Up to 7.2 GB | Up to 216 GB |
| Medium | Up to 0.7 GB | Up to 16.8 GB | Up to 504 GB |
| High | Up to 1 GB | Up to 24 GB | Up to 720 GB |
| HD | Up to 3 GB | Up to 72 GB | Up to 2,160 GB |
| Ultra HD | Up to 7 GB | Up to 168 GB | Up to 5,040 GB |
The calculation assumes the stated hourly rate stays constant for every hour. “24/7” means 24 hours each day here; if the class runs for fewer hours, multiply the hourly estimate by its actual runtime instead.
Estimate from a known delivered bitrate
If you know the stream’s steady bitrate as delivered to viewers, a useful decimal-data conversion is 1 Mbps = 10.8 GB over 24 hours, or 324 GB over 30 days. This is arithmetic: megabits are converted to megabytes and multiplied by elapsed time. For another bitrate, multiply those totals by the bitrate in Mbps. For example, a steady 2 Mbps delivery rate would work out to 21.6 GB per day and 648 GB over 30 days.

Use a viewer-side delivered bitrate for this calculation. YouTube’s live encoder recommendations describe what a creator sends to YouTube, not a guaranteed bitrate received by each viewer. YouTube’s H.264 guidance includes 3–8 Mbps for 720p at 60 fps and 5–14 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps, but those ingest settings cannot establish the data use of a particular viewer’s class stream. Will it exceed your Indian broadband data limit?
Compare the monthly estimate with the exact data threshold on your own broadband plan, then check what speed applies after that threshold—often called FUP or post-FUP speed. Headline download speed alone does not answer whether the connection will run out of high-speed data.

BharatNet’s official FTTH page lists examples with 700 GB, 1,400 GB, 5,000 GB and 6,000 GB thresholds, followed by reduced speeds. These are examples of BharatNet offers, not a description of every Indian provider or household plan; availability and tariff terms can change. BharatNet FTTH plans
- At the illustrative HD rate above, 2,160 GB over 30 days is more than the 700 GB and 1,400 GB examples, but less than the 5,000 GB and 6,000 GB examples.
- At the illustrative Ultra HD rate, 5,040 GB over 30 days is near or above those larger example thresholds.
Those comparisons only apply if your own plan has the same threshold and the stream stays at the assumed quality continuously. Household browsing, downloads, other video streams and connected devices also draw on shared broadband data. Why your actual total can differ
- Delivered quality and bitrate: Higher-quality video generally uses more data. Jio’s broad estimates range from up to 0.3 GB per hour at low quality to up to 7 GB per hour at Ultra HD.
- Adaptive playback: A streaming platform may change quality as network conditions change, so a stream labelled HD may not remain at one fixed rate throughout.
- Runtime: A stream that pauses, ends overnight or plays only during class hours uses less than the 24-hour assumption.
- Other household use: Your plan’s data allowance is shared with activity from other devices and users.
- Provider terms: The allowance and speed after it is used depend on your actual plan. Check the ISP’s account page or plan terms rather than inferring them from the plan’s advertised speed.
Do not confuse bandwidth recommendations with data consumed
Several commonly quoted figures answer different questions. YouTube’s bitrate table is for live encoder input. Netflix recommends at least 3 Mbps for 720p HD playback and 5 Mbps for 1080p Full HD, while noting that several factors affect quality; these are Netflix playback-speed recommendations, not a measurement of a recorded class’s data use. Netflix playback speed recommendations
A TRAI-hosted NCAER report published in 2012 gives historical approximate bandwidth requirements of 2 Mbps per video-streaming channel and 4–8 Mbps per HD channel. Those older bandwidth estimates are not a current service’s data-use guarantee. TRAI-hosted NCAER report

How to get a better estimate for your connection
- Find the actual plan threshold and post-threshold speed. Check your broadband provider’s account or plan terms, including whether the allowance resets monthly.
- Identify the viewing platform and quality controls. If you can select a lower quality, use the setting you expect to keep during continuous playback. If quality is automatic, allow for changes over time.
- Measure real usage where possible. Compare the ISP’s account usage before and after a representative viewing period, or use the platform’s usage information if it provides one. Other devices’ traffic can affect an ISP-wide reading.
- Scale to your schedule. Multiply the measured or estimated hourly rate by the hours per day and days per month you actually expect the class to play.
- Leave room for household traffic. Do not treat the stream estimate as the entire household’s monthly total if others share the connection.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you are asking because you want a recorded class to stay live on YouTube around the clock, the viewing data still depends on each viewer’s stream quality and their own broadband plan. StreamNeo handles the broadcaster’s side: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so no computer, OBS or home connection has to stay on. It does not stream from a camera.
- One flat price per slot for any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps; the video streams as made, with no re-encode or quality tiers.
- Automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card; one free day per account.
- Monthly: $9.99 per month.
Every slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, and StreamNeo team support. The same product is on every plan; only the billing length changes. See StreamNeo and start the free day.
