That relative description is the confirmed answer: the story moves forward by a few weeks, not a specified number of days. ABC’s official Season 7 lead sheet does not quantify the jump, but it describes Nolan as recovering from a gunshot wound when the season opens. Why the premiere does not provide an exact in-story date
The broadcast premiere date and the fictional timeline are different things. January 7, 2025 is when Season 7 premiered; it does not establish the calendar date of the season’s opening events or the date of the Season 6 finale within the story.

Hawley has cautioned that working out the show’s full chronology is difficult. In a TV Guide interview, he said interruptions including the pandemic and a strike complicate the timeline, and noted that the rookie training program lasts 13 months in the show’s world even though the characters graduated during Season 3. Those comments concern the series-wide chronology, not the Season 6-to-Season 7 gap. They are a reason not to turn “a few weeks” into a precise date or a fan-built calendar chronology and present it as confirmed canon.

Does the time jump change the way Season 7 tells its stories?
The passage of a few weeks is separate from the season’s storytelling approach. Hawley said Season 6 was unusually serialized because it had only 10 episodes, while he wanted Season 7 to have a more standalone feel without dropping the characters’ ongoing personal stories. In a May 22, 2024 interview with TheWrap, Hawley similarly said the 10-episode Season 6 leaned more heavily on serialized storytelling and that the show was looking forward to a return toward more standalone stories.
