Spoilers for the Season 4 finale of The Boys. Victoria Neuman’s offer to Hughie is sincere, according to actor Claudia Doumit: she trusts him, and the threat to her daughter Zoey finally makes Victoria see that her pursuit of power cannot keep them safe. She offers to help the Boys bring down Homelander in return for protection—but Butcher kills her before the proposed alliance can begin.
What Victoria asks Hughie to do
After Homelander threatens Zoey, Victoria contacts Hughie and says she wants out. She gives him Zoey’s location as a gesture of trust and offers to help the Boys take down Homelander if they get her and Zoey to safety. The deal is not completed: Butcher arrives and kills Victoria in front of her daughter. TVLine’s finale recap describes the exchange and its fatal interruption.

Why she turns to Hughie
She considers him a real friend
In a July 18, 2024 interview with ELLE, Doumit described Hughie as the only genuine friend Victoria has had in her adult life. She said their relationship is fractured, but he is also the person to whom Victoria has shown her true self. That history makes him more than a useful contact: he is someone she believes might understand her and take her appeal seriously.
Zoey’s danger breaks through her survival mode
Doumit’s interpretation is that the threat to Zoey forces Victoria to reconsider the path she is on. As she put it, “there is no outcome on this path where she is safe and her daughter survives.” The realization changes the calculation: the power and protection Victoria has pursued cannot guarantee the future she wants for Zoey.

The offer is both personal and strategic
Victoria still has practical reasons to ask for help. She wants safety for herself and her daughter, and the Boys are positioned to oppose Homelander. But Doumit said the appeal is not simply another manipulation. In her account, Victoria’s survival instinct and genuine trust in Hughie coexist: she is asking the person she feels closest to for a way out of a dangerous situation.

Doumit called Victoria’s story a cautionary tale about the cost of seeking absolute power. In her interview with TheWrap, she said: “She represents the self-destructive nature of one’s pursuit of absolute power and that pursuit will always cost an individual their integrity and humanity.” She also described Victoria’s choice to do the right thing as coming too late for her and, in a sense, for what she wanted for Zoey.
Rank #2
That is Doumit’s reading of the character, not a confirmed statement of the writers’ intent. The timing of the finale makes the tragedy plain: Victoria tries to change course only after Zoey is threatened, and Butcher’s intervention cuts off the chance to see whether she would have followed through.
