Heidi Klum and Italian businessman Flavio Briatore ended their relationship while Klum was pregnant. Leni was born on 4 May 2004, after the separation, and public accounts describe Briatore as absent from her everyday upbringing during her early years.

Klum married musician Seal in 2005. Seal became the adult who lived with Leni, cared for her and occupied the practical parenting role. In 2009, Seal legally adopted Leni with Briatore’s agreement. The adoption established Seal as her legal father and reflected the family arrangement in which he was already raising her.
Why Seal adopted Leni with Briatore’s agreement
Briatore later described the adoption as an adult decision intended to give Leni stability. In interviews reported between 2016 and 2018, he said the adults believed a baby should remain with her mother and grow up in a family. He also drew a distinction between biology and daily parenting, telling RTL, “Seal ist der Vater von Leni” (“Seal is Leni’s father”) in the practical sense.

Seal has similarly described his connection with Leni as beginning when he met Klum. In a Good Morning America interview, he characterized their bond as close, underscoring that his relationship with her was formed through years of parenting rather than only through the legal adoption.
How the relationship with Briatore began to change
Public expressions of affection
The public record shows Briatore speaking about Leni with affection before the family holiday images appeared. In 2022, he said he was proud of her and explained that distance limited how often they saw one another. His comment, “Non ci vediamo spesso, ma non significa che la amo di meno” (“We do not see each other often, but that does not mean I love her less”), acknowledged infrequent contact while affirming his feelings.
Introducing Leni to her half-brother
A significant step was Leni’s meeting with her younger half-brother, Nathan Falco, Briatore’s son with Elisabetta Gregoraci. Gregoraci described the first meeting as emotional and said the siblings subsequently sought one another out and spoke often. This gave Leni a direct connection to Briatore’s wider family, not just to Briatore as an individual.
Spending time together in 2023
During August and September 2023, Leni was photographed with Briatore and Nathan during a holiday. Images showed her sailing with Briatore in Italy and France. Coverage characterized the scenes as evidence of a close, reconciled relationship, although photographs cannot establish every private detail of how the relationship developed.
What “repaired” means in this family story
No published source records a single formal reconciliation conversation or a specific date when Leni and Briatore declared their relationship repaired. The available evidence instead points to a sequence of steps: Briatore’s acceptance of Seal’s parental role, later expressions of love and pride, contact between Leni and Nathan, and shared family travel.

That gradual pattern matters because Leni’s family history contains two different father roles. Seal supplied the sustained home life and became Leni’s legal father through adoption. Briatore remained her biological father and, over time, increased his visible presence and family connection. The roles overlap emotionally but are not interchangeable legally or historically.

Was the 2023 holiday the start of the reconnection?
No. The holiday was the most visible public sign of closeness, not the documented beginning of the process. Briatore’s 2022 comments and Leni’s meeting with Nathan in 2022–2023 show that contact and family integration were already developing. The photographs from Italy and France made that relationship easier for the public to see.
Is Seal still Leni Klum’s father after she reconnected with Briatore?
Yes. Seal remains Leni’s adoptive and legal father and the person who raised her through childhood. Reconnecting with Briatore does not erase that history. It adds a relationship with her biological father and his family rather than replacing Seal’s role.

What the evidence can—and cannot—show
- Established: Briatore is Leni’s biological father; Seal adopted and raised her; Briatore later expressed love and pride; Leni met Nathan; and she spent holiday time with Briatore in 2023.
- Not established: A single private meeting that formally repaired the relationship, a complete account of their conversations, or the exact frequency of their current contact.
The strongest interpretation is therefore a gradual rapprochement built through repeated contact and inclusion in Briatore’s family. Public appearances show closeness by 2023, while the private emotional work behind that change remains known only to the family.
