Start by checking the guide filter, then wake or reauthorize the receiver through MyDISH and unplug the DISH receiver for 10 seconds. If the guide says “No Information Available,” update the guide and check whether a tuner is occupied. Error codes such as 030, 031, 015, 022, or 535 point to different problems, including temporary channel unavailability and satellite-signal loss.

The right fix depends on whether channels are hidden, listed but not playing, missing only from DISH Anywhere, or unavailable because of weather, account status, local-channel limitations, or a programming dispute.

First, identify what “channels are gone” means

What you see Likely cause Start here
The channel is absent from the guide Guide filter or subscription visibility Choose All Subscribed, My Channels, or the equivalent subscribed-channel view.
The channel is listed but will not play Authorization, receiver, signal, maintenance, or programming availability Record the error, wake the receiver, and restart it.
The guide says “No Information Available” Missing guide data, an occupied tuner, receiver trouble, or signal loss Free a tuner and run a guide update.
The screen is black but the guide works Receiver playback, authorization, or signal problem Restart the receiver and try another channel.
Channels are missing only in DISH Anywhere Wrong receiver selection, app synchronization, or recent account changes Check the selected receiver and sign in again.

1. Show all subscribed channels

A hidden guide filter is one of the simplest explanations for apparently missing channels. Changing the filter does not restore a channel that is no longer included in your package; it only controls which channels appear in the guide.

  1. Press Guide.
  2. Open the current guide list or filter. Depending on the receiver and remote, use Options, the red button, or the guide-options control.
  3. Select All Subscribed, My Channels, or the equivalent setting that displays every channel in your subscription.
  4. Return to the guide and check the missing station.

DISH uses different labels on different receiver interfaces, so do not worry if your screen does not use the exact wording above. Hopper interfaces may also offer choices such as all channels, hiding unsubscribed channels, or showing unsubscribed channels. See DISH’s guidance for Hopper-family receivers and other receivers.

2. Wake up or reauthorize the receiver

Reauthorization is especially relevant after a payment or account reconnection, package change, receiver activation, equipment replacement, or a long period without using the service.

  1. Sign in to MyDISH.
  2. Open My Account or My Equipment.
  3. Select the affected receiver.
  4. Choose Wake Up Receivers, or follow the available reauthorization prompt.
  5. Wait approximately five to ten minutes, then test the channel.

This is not necessary for every missing-channel problem. If the channel is merely hidden by a guide filter, reauthorization will not change that setting. Conversely, a filter change will not restore programming that the receiver is not authorized to receive.

3. Restart the DISH receiver

Restart the receiver itself—not just the television.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Unplug the DISH receiver’s power cord from the electrical outlet. DISH commonly identifies this cord with a red tag.
  2. Leave it unplugged for 10 seconds.
  3. Plug it back in.
  4. Allow about five minutes for a standard restart. Signal-loss or black-screen recovery can take up to approximately 10 minutes.

On a Hopper-and-Joey system, restart the primary Hopper first. If the Joey is still affected, restart the Joey afterward. A Joey can depend on the Hopper for guide information and system communication.

4. Fix “No Information Available” in the guide

“No Information Available” is different from a hidden channel list. It can mean that guide data has not downloaded, a tuner is occupied, or the receiver has a signal or software problem.

Newer Hopper or Wally systems

  1. Open TV Activity by pressing the red button or Options, depending on the remote.
  2. Look for an available tuner.
  3. If a tuner is recording, select it and choose Stop Recording.
  4. If a tuner is being used by another receiver, turn off the receiver shown as watching.
  5. Wait for the guide to download. This can take about 10 minutes.
  6. If necessary, press Home three times.
  7. Select Tools, then Guide Update.
  8. Wait for the download to finish.

For some older receivers, DISH provides a different procedure: open the Guide, press the right-arrow button repeatedly until error 318 appears, then select Yes to start the guide download. The menu path varies by receiver generation. DISH’s instructions are available for general receivers, Hopper-family systems, and older or other receivers.

5. Fix a black screen when the guide still works

If you can scroll through the guide but the selected program produces a black screen, the problem is probably not just a guide-filter setting.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Press the receiver’s power button to turn it off.
  2. Wait 10 seconds.
  3. Turn it on again.
  4. Change to another channel, then return to the original channel.
  5. If the problem remains, unplug the primary receiver for 10 seconds and allow up to 10 minutes for recovery.
  6. On a Hopper-and-Joey system, reset the Joey separately only after checking the Hopper.

Note the exact error message before repeating the reset. DISH’s black-screen troubleshooting can help determine whether support or a technician is needed.

6. Understand “Channel Unavailable” and errors 030 or 031

DISH associates errors 030 and 031 with channel-unavailable conditions. A channel may be temporarily unavailable because of routine maintenance; the code does not automatically prove that the channel has been removed or that a programming dispute is active.

  1. Check whether DISH reports maintenance affecting the channel.
  2. If maintenance is not occurring or has ended, unplug the receiver for 10 seconds.
  3. Allow approximately five minutes for the receiver to restart.
  4. Reset the Hopper before the Joey if you use a Hopper-and-Joey system.
  5. Contact DISH if the channel remains unavailable.

DISH specifically cautions against running a Check Switch test during scheduled satellite maintenance if you have performed one previously. It is not a universal first step for missing channels. See the guidance for Hopper systems or other receivers.

7. Troubleshoot satellite-signal loss

Signal-loss errors include 015, 015a, 015n, 015x, 015y, 015z, 022, and 535. Severe weather is a common cause, but clear weather does not rule out a loose cable, a moved dish, an obstruction, or equipment trouble.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Check whether heavy rain, snow, or storms are occurring. Temporary interruption may clear when the weather passes.
  2. Unplug the primary receiver for 10 seconds and allow it to restart.
  3. Confirm that the coaxial cable is firmly connected to the receiver and wall outlet.
  4. Make sure the receiver has not been moved from its installed location.
  5. Look for safe-to-remove branches, debris, or snow obstructing the dish.
  6. Do not climb a ladder or roof to inspect or clear the dish.
  7. Arrange technician service if the dish has moved, is damaged, remains obstructed, or loses signal in clear weather.

For the full error-code and safety guidance, see DISH’s signal-loss instructions.

Temporary internet alternative

An internet-connected Hopper may be able to switch to streaming while satellite reception is unavailable. DISH identifies Ethernet as the most uninterrupted connection method and provides Wi-Fi setup guidance. Hopper 1 and Wally equipment may require a Wi-Fi adapter for Wi-Fi connectivity. This is a temporary workaround, not proof that the dish or satellite connection has been repaired, and available programming can vary.

8. Check package entitlement, maintenance, and disputes

If only one channel is missing, check:

  • Whether the channel is still included in your current package.
  • Whether its channel number changed.
  • Whether a guide filter is hiding it.
  • Whether the receiver needs reauthorization.
  • Whether the channel is temporarily unavailable.
  • Whether the issue affects every receiver or only one.
  • Whether DISH reports a current programming dispute.

DISH says programming disputes can affect channel availability. Check its current dispute-status information rather than assuming a dispute is active. A recent package or account change may also require the receiver to be woken or reauthorized.

9. If only local channels are missing

Local-channel problems can involve the receiver, the local market, the service location, an affiliate dispute, or an over-the-air antenna.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For standard satellite service, confirm that the receiver is at the service address and that the local station belongs to the account’s current market. DISH Outdoors and Tailgater equipment have additional location limitations: the Tailgater documentation warns that local channels may not be available when the receiver is away from or not near the address on the DISH account. Do not automatically apply that limitation to every DISH customer.

When the missing locals come from an antenna

An over-the-air antenna is separate from satellite programming. With a compatible DISH OTA adapter, the general Hopper scan process is:

  1. Connect the USB OTA adapter.
  2. Accept the restart prompt.
  3. Accept the channel-scan prompt.
  4. Select Find Channels, then Scan.
  5. Select Continue.
  6. Choose which channels should appear in the guide and save.

An OTA rescan can restore antenna channels, but it cannot restore ESPN, premium networks, cable channels, or other satellite package channels. See DISH’s Hopper settings guidance for compatibility and menu details.

10. Restore channels in DISH Anywhere

A channel missing from DISH Anywhere is not necessarily missing from the physical receiver. DISH Anywhere can be affected by receiver selection, app communication, account changes, or a receiver error.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Check the physical receiver for an error message.
  2. If you have more than one receiver, select the correct receiver in DISH Anywhere.
  3. Restart the phone, tablet, computer, or streaming device.
  4. Sign out of DISH Anywhere and sign back in.
  5. Reset the receiver if the app still cannot communicate with it.
  6. Reinstall the app only if needed. Reinstalling removes downloaded content.

After a new receiver installation, account activation or reconnection, or programming change, DISH says channels may take up to 24 hours to appear in DISH Anywhere. That is an app-synchronization window, not a guarantee that every receiver problem will resolve within 24 hours. Follow DISH’s DISH Anywhere troubleshooting steps.

Special cases by equipment and symptom

Hopper and Joey

The Hopper is the primary receiver. Reset it before the Joey, particularly when guide data or multiple connected receivers are affected. Reset the Joey afterward if only that room remains unavailable.

Wally and older ViP receivers

Wally and older ViP receivers may use different guide, authorization, and reset menus. Use the equivalent function rather than forcing a Hopper-specific path. The older error-318 guide-download method may apply to some devices.

Only one receiver is affected

Compare the same channel on other receivers. If other rooms work, the issue is more likely to involve the affected receiver, Joey connection, room cable, or local equipment. If every receiver fails, investigate authorization, account status, signal, maintenance, or channel availability.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Actions to avoid

  • Do not restart only the television. The receiver controls authorization, guide data, and satellite communication.
  • Do not factory-reset the receiver as a first step. A factory reset returns the equipment to standard factory settings and is a separate action. Use it only when DISH directs you or you understand the consequences.
  • Do not run Check Switch casually. In particular, follow DISH’s maintenance warning before running it.
  • Do not use an OTA scan to repair satellite channels. It only searches for antenna broadcasts.
  • Do not climb onto a roof or ladder. Use a technician for an inaccessible or damaged dish.
  • Do not repeatedly reboot without recording the error. The exact code can save time when you contact support.

When to contact DISH

Contact DISH Support when:

  • An error code remains after the receiver reset.
  • The receiver will not wake or reauthorize.
  • Subscribed channels remain unavailable.
  • Signal loss continues in clear weather.
  • The dish may have moved or been damaged.
  • A suspected maintenance issue or programming dispute cannot be confirmed.
  • Only one receiver remains affected after the Hopper has been reset.
  • DISH Anywhere still cannot communicate with the correct receiver.

Have this information ready

  • The exact error number and on-screen wording.
  • The channel number and name.
  • Whether other channels work.
  • Whether all receivers or only one are affected.
  • Whether the problem also occurs in DISH Anywhere.
  • Recent account, package, receiver, or location changes.
  • Current weather conditions.
  • Whether the guide filter has been changed to show all subscribed channels.

Bottom line

For most missing-channel problems, the safest order is: show all subscribed channels, wake or reauthorize the receiver, unplug it for 10 seconds, update the guide if information is missing, and then follow the error-specific path for black screens, unavailable channels, or signal loss. Reset the Hopper before the Joey, avoid factory resets and unsafe dish work, and contact DISH with the exact error code when the basic steps do not restore service.
