Amazon Prime Video does not use one universal settings menu. Change account and app preferences in Settings, choose audio and subtitles from the playback controls, and use your TV, streaming player, or Fire TV settings when Prime Video does not expose the option.
The exact labels can vary by app version, device, country, and title. The guide below shows where to look first and whether each change is account-wide, device-specific, or title-dependent.
Find the setting you need

If you only remember one rule: app and account preferences are in Settings; audio and subtitles are normally changed while a title is playing; device-level accessibility and parental controls may be outside Prime Video.

On a computer browser
- Open PrimeVideo.com and sign in.
- Open Account & Settings.
- Select Language.
- Choose the language you want.
This changes the Prime Video website interface. It does not add audio or subtitle tracks to a movie or series.

On iPhone, iPad, or Android
- Open the Prime Video app.
- Open My Area or the profile area.
- Tap the gear icon.
- Choose Language and select a language.
Amazon may move the language option behind a profile icon or rename My Area after an app update.
On Fire TV, smart TVs, and other connected devices
- Open Prime Video.
- Open the app’s Settings menu.
- Choose Language.
- Select the preferred language.
If Prime Video does not show a language option, check the television or streaming player’s system-language settings. This is a fallback to try, not a guaranteed way to change Prime Video.
Change the audio language during playback
Web, phones, tablets, and many Amazon devices
- Start the movie or episode.
- Move the pointer, tap the screen, or pause to reveal playback controls.
- Select the audio icon or the subtitles/CC control.
- Choose the available audio track.
Some audio-description tracks are labeled [Audio Description] or [Audio Descriptions]. See Amazon’s audio-track guidance.

- Start playback.
- Press Up on the remote or controller.
- Select Audio & Languages.
- Choose an available track.
The button and menu design vary by device. A language is selectable only when that title offers the track in your region and on that device. Changing the interface language cannot create a missing audio track.
Turn subtitles or captions on or off
Computer, phone, tablet, and Amazon devices
- Begin playback.
- Reveal the playback controls.
- Select CC, Subtitles, or the speech-bubble icon.
- Turn captions on or off and choose an available language.

TVs, streaming players, and game consoles
- Start the title.
- Open the playback menu with the remote or controller. On many devices, press Up and then Select or Enter.
- Choose the CC or subtitles control.
- Select a language or turn captions off.
Some devices also let you choose subtitles from the title overview page before playback. See Amazon’s connected-device caption instructions.
Roku
Roku may manage caption behavior through its own system menu:
- Press Home on the Roku remote.
- Open Settings.
- Select Accessibility or Captions.
- Open Captions mode and choose when captions should appear.
Amazon says Roku does not support Prime Video subtitle presets, so appearance controls may need to be changed in Roku’s settings.
Apple TV
Use the Prime Video playback menu first. If appearance or caption behavior is unavailable there, check tvOS’s caption and subtitle settings. Apple’s current reference is Subtitles and captions on Apple devices.
Change subtitle appearance
Subtitle language and subtitle appearance are separate controls. Depending on the platform, appearance may include font, size, color, opacity, and background.

- While playing a title, open the CC or subtitles menu.
- Look for Subtitle Settings or a preset option.
- If it is missing, open the device’s Accessibility, Captions, or Subtitles settings.
Do not assume a preset made on the website will look identical on every TV, Roku player, console, phone, or tablet. Amazon notes that accessibility options vary by title and device.
Use audio descriptions and Dialogue Boost
Audio descriptions are alternate audio tracks. Start playback and choose the track from the audio menu; on connected devices this is generally under Audio & Languages.
Dialogue Boost is a separate accessibility feature available only on supported platforms and titles. If the option is not shown in playback or Prime Video settings, that device or title may not support it. Amazon’s accessibility help lists availability limitations.
Set parental controls, viewing restrictions, and PINs
Prime Video website restrictions
- On a computer, open PrimeVideo.com and sign in.
- Go to Account & Settings.
- Select Permissions.
- Choose an age restriction.
- Select the devices to which it should apply.
- Select Save.
Amazon distinguishes between viewing restrictions and purchase restrictions. Viewing restrictions apply to the devices you configure, while purchase restrictions apply across profiles. Check the selected devices rather than assuming the restriction covers every screen.
Fire TV controls
Fire TV has separate device-level parental controls. Configure them in Fire TV’s own Settings menu as well as any Prime Video restrictions you need. Menu names can differ by Fire OS version and device generation.

A Prime Video PIN is not necessarily the same as your Fire TV lock code. A Kids profile can help limit what a child sees, but it should not be treated as a complete replacement for device controls or purchase restrictions.
Manage Prime Video profiles
To switch profiles, open the profile selector and choose the required profile. To create or edit one, open profile management from the profile selector or account area.
Amazon documents separate profile instructions for the website, iOS and Android, connected devices, Fire tablets, and Fire TV in its Prime Video Support hub. The path is therefore not identical everywhere.
Kids profiles are profile-level controls. They do not change the Amazon account’s country, Prime Video territory, device parental controls, or every purchase setting.

On phones and tablets, open Prime Video’s Settings and look for labels such as Streaming and Downloading, Stream & Download, or Download Quality. Mobile app versions commonly provide separate streaming and download choices.

- Getting set up is easy – Plug in and connect to Wi-Fi for smooth streaming.
Browser and TV apps may not expose the same manual quality selector. Actual quality also depends on the title, device capability, connection speed, subscription or content rights, and Amazon’s adaptive streaming. If the quality option is absent, that can be normal for that platform rather than a fault.
Before downloading a title, verify its available audio and subtitle tracks. Download behavior and retained playback preferences can vary by app and device.
Device-by-device guide
Fire TV
- Use Prime Video’s app settings for profiles and interface language.
- Use the playback menu for audio, subtitles, and audio descriptions.
- Use Fire TV Settings for parental controls, accessibility, display, audio behavior, app management, updates, and related device options.
Smart TVs and streaming players
For Samsung, LG, Sony, Vizio, Hisense, Google TV, Android TV, and similar platforms, open Prime Video Settings for app preferences. Start playback for audio and subtitles. If an appearance or accessibility control is missing, check the television or player’s system settings.
iPhone, iPad, and Android
Use My Area → gear icon → Language for the app language. Select audio and subtitles while the title is playing, not usually from the main Settings screen.
Computer
Use Account & Settings for language and permissions. Use the video overlay for audio and subtitles. Browser audio output, display scaling, full-screen behavior, and accessibility tools remain controlled by the computer or browser.
When a setting is missing or does not work
The CC or audio icon is missing
- Confirm that the title supports subtitles or alternate audio.
- Start playback and move the pointer, tap the video, pause, or press Select/Enter.
- Try another supported title. If the control appears there, the first title may be the limitation.
- Update Prime Video and the device software.
- Restart the app and device.
- Check the device’s Accessibility or Captions settings.
- Sign out and back in.
- Contact Amazon support if a supported title still lacks the expected option.
The desired language is unavailable
The title may not include that track, the track may not be licensed in your country, the device app may expose fewer options, or you may be watching a different edition of the title. Interface language settings do not add playback languages.
Settings keep reverting
Check whether you changed the correct profile and device. The preference may be device-specific, controlled by the TV or streaming player, tied to a different title version, or lost after an app reset, reinstall, or sign-out. Prime Video should not be expected to synchronize every setting across every device.
