Who is behind Highbrow Hippie?
Highbrow Hippie says Kadi Lee and Myka Harris founded the brand in 2011 as a platform for conversations about beauty, culture and conscious living. The company says its Venice, California, Atelier opened in 2019 and its Haircare and Wellness line launched in 2024. Highbrow Hippie’s About page describes that history.
In a November 14, 2024 feature, Oprah Daily identified Lee as a Los Angeles colorist known as “The Fixer” and reported that she and Harris co-developed the serum and supplements. The article says Lee worked with Julia Roberts over much of Roberts’s career and worked with Meghan Markle’s textured hair. Oprah Daily reported that both women used the products; that association is reporting about product use, not independent evidence of effectiveness.

How do you use Root Replenish serum?
- Part the hair to expose the scalp and apply a thin layer of serum along the scalp.
- Massage it into the scalp for 30 seconds.
- Use it twice daily, as the brand recommends. Its FAQ says one dropperful distributed over the scalp twice a day uses about one bottle per 30 days; it also says spot treatment is an option.
These are the manufacturer’s directions in the product listing and FAQ. The FAQ says the serum is safe for color-treated hair and does not recommend combining it with scalp microneedling, noting that use with microneedling has not been evaluated. Oprah Daily quoted Lee saying, “In a pinch, once a day works too”; that is Lee’s comment, while the brand’s written directions call for twice-daily use.
What is in the serum?
The brand’s ingredient list includes water, rice water, pea sprout extract, resveratrol ferment, lactobacillus/lactococcus/saccharomyces ferments, saw palmetto (Serenoa serrulata), ashwagandha, prickly pear and green tea extract, among other formulation ingredients. The product page describes the formula as oil-free and water-based. An ingredient list alone does not establish that a product regrows hair or treats a cause of hair loss.

What results does the brand claim—and what is established?
Highbrow Hippie describes a sequence of less shedding by 30 days, hair growth by 60 days and greater density by 90 days on its product page. Its FAQ says to expect results after 90 days. These are the brand’s stated expectations, not a guaranteed outcome or a clinical result independently established for this serum.
The sources cited here do not provide a controlled clinical efficacy statistic for Root Replenish or a head-to-head comparison of the serum, supplement and bundle. Oprah Daily’s account of celebrity use, including Julia Roberts’s comments that her hair felt stronger and was growing faster, should be understood as attributed testimonial reporting—not proof that the products caused those results.

What should you know about the supplement?
The brand directs users to take four capsules per day as two capsules twice daily with food. Its FAQ says not to take the Essential Wellbeing Complex if you use blood thinners, are pregnant, trying to conceive or breastfeeding. It advises people with thyroid issues to consult a doctor because the supplement contains biotin, which the brand says may falsely alter T3 and T4 blood test results.
