Spoilers ahead for “The Faust and the Furious,” Season 2, Episode 12 of High Potential. A murder staged to look self-inflicted drives the case, but the episode’s most intimate turn comes when Morgan Gillory’s fear for her children breaks through her usual composure—and Adam Karadec helps her find her footing again. Their bond deepens; the episode does not confirm a romance.
What happens in “The Faust and the Furious”?
“The Faust and the Furious,” written by Katie McElhenney, is the twelfth episode of High Potential Season 2. It aired on ABC on February 3, 2026. The case begins with Gabe Rafferty, a wealthy wellness and technology entrepreneur, following a carefully choreographed daily routine. His housekeeper later finds him stabbed in his yoga room. There is no obvious sign of forced entry or a struggle, and the home alarm remains set. The weapon is a phurba, a ritual dagger.
The apparently sealed-off scene points toward a personal or carefully concealed motive. Gabe’s company, GeneGevity, promises gene hacking and a way to slow aging. The investigation also turns up a secret child-support dispute, resentment from pharmaceutical interests, and an aggrieved former collaborator. As the detectives follow those leads, an app linked to GeneGevity makes Gabe’s biodata disappear, complicating their picture of him and his work.
How the Gabe Rafferty murder is solved
Gabe 2 and Mika Astor
A digital version of Gabe, called Gabe 2, becomes part of the inquiry, sharing threats and clues. The detectives also look at Mika Astor, whose company Gabe had bought and then shut down. Although Mika had lost the company, she retained the technical ability to access the home system and disable Gabe 2—details that give the team a way to examine both the digital evidence and the house itself.

The clues in the house
The room where Gabe died holds a quieter clue: its plants are dying and insects are dead. Those details shift attention from the visible wound to the environment. The episode’s investigation points to the house ventilation system being used to release toxic gas. Gabe’s airway is inflamed, and the recap’s account of the plot indicates that he stabbed himself while trying to escape the painful exposure. The killer had engineered the situation so that the fatal sequence would appear self-inflicted.
The toxic-gas sequence is a fictional plot device, not a guide to identifying or handling a real exposure.

Why Morgan panics—and how Karadec helps
Before the crisis, Morgan sees Lucia, Karadec’s former fiancée and current partner, at his apartment and asks whether he is happy with her. That question gives the episode’s relationship tension a personal edge, but it is not the same as a declaration or a change in Karadec’s relationship status.
Later, Morgan and Karadec are trapped in a room that seems to be filling with toxic gas. Morgan tries a five-senses grounding exercise, but the thought that she may never see her children again overwhelms her. Karadec stays calm, focuses on his breathing, and embraces her. His steady presence helps Morgan regain control.

After the danger passes, Morgan is ashamed that she could not stay composed. Karadec tells her she should not apologize for being human, and says he trusts her to know what to do when things get difficult. It is a direct expression of care and confidence—one that makes their working partnership feel more intimate without establishing them as a couple.
Does this episode confirm Morgan and Karadec are a couple?
No. The episode gives Morgan and Karadec a vulnerable, emotionally charged moment, while Karadec’s relationship with Lucia continues. The distinction matters: what the episode shows is growing trust and closeness, while a romantic reading remains an interpretation rather than a confirmed plot development.

The episode also gives Oz a quieter emotional thread. His father’s memorial remains unresolved because the headstone situation has not been settled. Selena notices that he is struggling, and Oz explains the weight of the problem and his guilt about not being there for his mother. Selena shares her own experience of grief and urges him to stop blaming himself. The exchange gives Oz space beyond his role in the case team and places his guilt alongside Morgan’s fear: both characters are confronting feelings they cannot simply reason away.
