The central Heathers cast went on to very different careers: Winona Ryder and Christian Slater became prominent film and television actors, Shannen Doherty found major success on television, Lisanne Falk continued acting in films, and Kim Walker died in 2001. Here is what is documented about the five performers and their work after the film—without guessing about private whereabouts or unverified current activities.
Who played whom in Heathers?
The principal roles are Veronica Sawyer, Jason “J.D.” Dean, and the three Heathers: Heather Duke, Heather McNamara, and Heather Chandler. Rotten Tomatoes’ cast listing identifies the performers in those roles. A reference page describes the film as directed by Michael Lehmann and written by Daniel Waters, and dates its release to March 31, 1988; the cast listing gives March 31, 1989. The sources conflict, so the release year is not treated here as settled.

Where are the five principal cast members now?
Winona Ryder as Veronica Sawyer
Ryder’s post-Heathers screen credits include Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, and Girl, Interrupted. Among her later television work is Stranger Things. In a recollection relayed by Woman’s World in 2024, Ryder said she told the filmmakers she would make Heathers for no money because she wanted to say its lines, and described Veronica as her “idol.”
Christian Slater as Jason “J.D.” Dean
Slater’s selected later credits include Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, True Romance, and Broken Arrow. His television work includes Mr. Robot. The 2024 retrospective also quotes Slater reflecting on the attention he received early in his career after the film.

Shannen Doherty as Heather Duke
Doherty later became widely known for television roles in Beverly Hills, 90210 and Charmed. Her film credits also include Mallrats. These are career milestones, not a report of her current work or living status: the retrospective cited here was updated July 2, 2024 and is not a current-status source.
Lisanne Falk as Heather McNamara
Falk’s later screen credits include Say Anything and Night on Earth; her earlier work included Less Than Zero. In the 2024 feature, Falk reflected on the screenplay’s dark, subversive quality. The available sources do not establish where she lives or what work she is doing now.
Rank #2
Kim Walker as Heather Chandler
Walker’s other cited film credits include Deadly Weapon and Say Anything. Woman’s World gives her date of death as March 6, 2001. Her career can be described through the work she completed; speculation about what she might have done later would go beyond the record.

For this cast, the available coverage supports selected career highlights rather than a complete, up-to-the-minute account of every performer’s activities. It does not establish current residence, private circumstances, or ongoing projects for all five actors. The film’s adaptation also continues on stage: the official Heathers: The Musical page describes the show as based on the film and advertises a final New York performance on October 11, 2026, followed by a North American tour beginning in Baltimore in May 2027. Performance schedules can change, so consult the official page for current dates.
