These were the confirmed U.S. dates. International viewers should not assume that the calendar date or local release time was identical in every territory; regional schedules and time-zone conversions varied. HBO’s official announcement confirmed the eight-episode season, the October 26 premiere and the weekly rollout. A separate HBO Max announcement confirmed episode 2’s unusual Halloween streaming debut.
Why episode 2 had two different dates
Episode 2 was not delayed or accidentally listed twice. HBO Max made it available early at 12:00 a.m. Pacific time—3:00 a.m. Eastern time—on Friday, October 31, 2025, as a Halloween event. Viewers watching the linear HBO channel followed the normal Sunday schedule and saw the episode on November 2 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.

That distinction is important: October 31 was the early U.S. streaming date, while November 2 was the HBO broadcast date. The remaining episodes returned to the regular Sunday cadence, ending with the December 14 finale.
Where to watch IT: Welcome to Derry
In the United States, the series premiered on HBO and streamed through HBO Max. The original announcement therefore provided two ways to follow the rollout: a 9:00 p.m. ET/PT HBO broadcast and streaming availability through HBO Max, with episode 2 receiving the special early digital release.
Platform names, regional rights, subscription terms and catalog availability can change. Before subscribing or recommending a specific package, check the current HBO/Max offering in your country. Viewers outside the United States should also consult their local provider, because an international service may use a different release date or platform.
What is the series about?
IT: Welcome to Derry expands the screen version of Stephen King’s terrifying Derry mythology. HBO describes the series as being based on King’s novel IT while also expanding the world established by Andy Muschietti’s films, IT (2017) and IT: Chapter Two (2019).

It is not simply a remake of either movie. Its premise gives the creators room to explore Derry’s history and the recurring horror associated with Pennywise beyond the specific events covered by the films.
The television project was developed by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs. Andy Muschietti also directed multiple episodes. The series’ official positioning and production details are outlined in HBO’s release announcement.

How to prepare: read the source novel
For viewers who want the broader mythology behind the show, the most direct companion is Stephen King’s IT novel. HBO identifies the book as the source basis for the series, making it a more relevant starting point than a generic horror recommendation. The novel is substantial and includes material, character history and Derry lore that cannot be represented in a single television season.
Readers should treat the book as source material rather than an episode-by-episode viewing guide. Editions, formats, prices and availability differ by market, so check the listing details before buying.

Fans who want to continue through the connected screen story can also revisit IT and IT: Chapter Two on Blu-ray or 4K UHD, provided those editions are available in their region. A physical edition of IT: Welcome to Derry should likewise be checked for current release and availability rather than assumed.

What is known about season 2?
HBO leadership reporting indicated that work on a second season was underway, but the available reporting did not establish a confirmed season 2 premiere date. Development or production work is not the same as an announced release schedule.
Accordingly, no month, year or projected window should be presented as official until HBO publishes one. Any online date described as a prediction remains speculation unless it is supported by a formal HBO announcement.
