The initial U.S. lineup includes a channel devoted to Friends and a broader World of Westeros channel built around the Game of Thrones universe.
Warner Bros. Discovery announced the feature on December 12, 2025, but access is limited to select users in the United States during the rollout. It is not a new cable network or a separate 24-hour broadcast service. Instead, these are always-on-style playlists inside HBO Max for viewers who would rather choose a familiar franchise or genre than browse for a specific episode.
What HBO Max’s new channels actually are
The Channels feature gives users continuously playable feeds assembled from programming already available in HBO Max’s catalog. Select a channel, and playback begins with the episode or title currently at the start of the queue. Viewers can scrub backward or forward and skip to the next queued episode, so the experience combines the low-effort flow of traditional television with the controls of a streaming app. [C001][C002]
That distinction matters when describing the “24/7” concept. The channels are continuous in-app feeds, not conventional broadcast channels with a fixed national schedule. They are closer to curated playlists that keep going until the viewer stops, changes channels, or chooses something else.

Friends gets a complete-series marathon channel
The Friends channel is one of the clearest examples of the feature’s purpose. According to the launch announcement, it carries all 10 seasons of the sitcom, allowing viewers to drop into the series without selecting a season, episode, or individual title first. [C001]
For a familiar comfort-watch, that can be more convenient than navigating the normal on-demand interface. The viewer chooses Friends once and lets the feed continue through the queued episodes. It is essentially a sitcom marathon with streaming controls rather than a separately produced version of the show.
World of Westeros is broader than a Game of Thrones channel
The second headline-making option is called World of Westeros, not simply “Game of Thrones.” HBO Max describes it as an epic collection of stories from the Seven Kingdoms. That wording leaves room for programming connected to the wider Westeros setting, rather than promising a feed limited exclusively to the original eight-season Game of Thrones series. [C001]
In other words, viewers interested in Game of Thrones should look for the World of Westeros label, but should not assume that every item in the channel is necessarily an episode of the original series. The exact mix can depend on the franchise programming available in HBO Max’s catalog and on how the service curates the feed.

For viewers who want a permanent, offline collection instead of streaming access, the complete Game of Thrones Blu-ray set is a separate option. The retail listing identifies it as a 33-disc collection containing all eight seasons and bonus features. It is not required to use HBO Max’s channel and serves a different purpose: ownership, collecting, and offline playback.
The 12 channels in the initial lineup
The launch lineup mixed single-show feeds, franchise destinations, and broader genre channels:
- Adult Animation
- The Big Bang Theory
- DC
- Friends
- Harry Potter
- Holiday Favorites
- Middle-earth
- Rick and Morty
- The Sopranos
- Sex and the City
- True Crime
- World of Westeros
The range is significant because HBO Max is not treating the feature only as a way to marathon individual hit shows. The list includes recognizable franchises such as DC, Harry Potter, and Middle-earth alongside title-specific channels and genre-led destinations such as Adult Animation and True Crime. [C001][C003]
Who can see the Channels rail?
At launch, HBO Max said the feature was available to select users in the United States. The announcement did not describe an immediate universal rollout to every subscriber. [C001]
For users included in the rollout, the practical discovery path is:

- Open HBO Max in the United States.
- Switch to an adult profile.
- Go to the Home page.
- Look for the Channels rail.
- Choose a channel such as Friends or World of Westeros.
The official announcement said the rail would appear on adult profiles across all subscription tiers for users who received the feature. That does not mean every plan holder had access on launch day: the select-user qualification still applies. If the Channels rail is missing, the most likely explanation based on the rollout language is that the account or profile has not yet been included, rather than that the viewer is necessarily using the wrong subscription tier. [C001][C002]
Streaming convenience versus owning the shows
These channels are designed to reduce friction. They make it easier to press play on something recognizable and let the service decide what comes next. Physical media solves a different problem.
The Game of Thrones: The Complete Series Blu-ray is aimed at viewers who want all eight seasons in a collectible, offline-accessible set, along with bonus material. That can appeal to fans who do not want their viewing experience to depend on a continuing streaming subscription or on the title remaining in a particular catalog. Availability and edition details can vary by retailer.
There is a comparable physical option for the sitcom audience: the Friends: The Complete Series DVD. Target’s listing describes a Warner Bros. 25th Anniversary set with all 236 episodes across 32 discs, plus a 36-page episode guide. Like the Blu-ray collection, it is an alternative for ownership and offline viewing, not a prerequisite for the HBO Max channel. [C005]
Why HBO Max is adding always-on-style feeds
The feature addresses one of streaming’s persistent usability problems: too much choice. On-demand catalogs are flexible, but that flexibility often requires several decisions before playback begins—what show, which season, which episode, and whether to continue after it ends.
A curated channel compresses those decisions into one choice based on mood or familiarity. “Friends,” “DC,” “True Crime,” or “World of Westeros” can function as a viewing destination rather than merely a title in a search result. Once playback starts, the viewer can watch passively, skip ahead, or take control whenever they want.

It also gives HBO Max a way to make its existing library feel more programmed without claiming that the service has created new episodes or launched a linear television network. The value is in the organization and playback experience: recognizable catalog content arranged for continuous viewing.

What to expect from the rollout
The verified launch information supports a cautious interpretation. HBO Max announced the channels for select U.S. users on December 12, 2025, with the Channels rail appearing on eligible adult profiles. It does not establish that the feature is available in every country, on every account, or with an unchanged lineup over time.
For eligible viewers, the best way to try it is simply to check the Home page for the Channels rail. If it appears, Friends offers a straightforward all-series sitcom feed, while World of Westeros provides a broader franchise-oriented destination whose contents may extend beyond the original Game of Thrones series.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are HBO Max’s Friends and World of Westeros channels really 24/7?
They are continuous in-app feeds that keep queuing programming, which makes them similar to always-on television. They are not conventional broadcast or cable channels: viewers can scrub, skip to the next episode, and stop playback whenever they choose.

Does the World of Westeros channel include only Game of Thrones?
Not necessarily. HBO Max described World of Westeros as a broader collection of stories from the Seven Kingdoms, so it should not be treated as a feed guaranteed to contain only episodes of the original eight-season Game of Thrones series.

The December 12, 2025 launch was for select users in the United States, so the feature was not guaranteed to appear on every account immediately. Eligible users should look on the Home page while using an adult profile.
Do I need a special HBO Max plan to watch the channels?
The launch announcement said the channels would appear across all subscription tiers for users who received the feature. However, access was still described as limited to select U.S. users, so plan eligibility alone did not guarantee access at launch.
The Bottom Line
HBO Max’s new Channels feature turns familiar catalog titles into low-effort, continuously playable feeds. Friends is presented as a complete 10-season sitcom marathon, while World of Westeros is a broader destination for programming connected to the Game of Thrones universe. The feature is best understood as an in-app alternative to browsing—not as a new cable network—and its initial availability was limited to select users in the United States.
