In an interview reported on October 21, 2024, Hayley Erbert said she listens to her body when dancing after emergency brain surgery and still has a medical team around her. The reports describe her gradual return to performing, but do not explain who is on that team, what medical clearance covered, or her current health status.
What Hayley Erbert said about dancing after surgery
Erbert made the remarks in an Entertainment Tonight interview, as reported by Us Weekly and People on October 21, 2024. Asked whether she had to change routines after surgery, she said: “I just listen to my body. Being a dancer, I feel like I’m really in tune with my body.”
She also said, “I do have a medical team still around me.” The reports do not name the team’s members or describe their guidance, so the phrase does not establish what support she receives or what activities have been medically cleared.
What happened to Hayley Erbert?
During the Washington, D.C., stop of the Symphony of Dance tour in December 2023, Erbert experienced a medical emergency. Contemporaneous reports described a brain bleed and a cranial hematoma. Us Weekly reported that she underwent an emergency craniectomy and later a second operation to replace a portion of skull removed during the first surgery. These details are reported medical history, not an independent diagnosis.

Her reported return to dance
The reports describe a sequence of public milestones rather than a clinical recovery record:
- March 2024: Us Weekly reported that Erbert returned to the studio.
- April 2024: Us Weekly reported that she performed before an audience for the first time since the emergency.
- October 15, 2024: People reported that she returned to the Dancing with the Stars ballroom with Derek Hough.
In the October interview, Hough said he was the more nervous partner about strenuous moves: “I’m the one who’s like, ‘What? … we don’t need to do that.’” He said Erbert would answer, “Babe, I can do it. I’m fine,” and that her confidence “puts my mind at ease.” Those remarks describe the couple’s perspective; they do not specify medical advice or restrictions.

What the reports do—and do not—establish
The public accounts document Erbert’s statements and several performances after surgery. They do not establish that she had unrestricted medical clearance, describe her prognosis or any ongoing symptoms, or provide a current clinical update. A return to the studio or stage is a performance milestone, not by itself evidence of complete recovery.
