In an AlloCiné interview published August 3, 2025, he discussed the ingredients behind the films and whether their characters might return; the interview left a possible third installment undecided.
Is The Bad Guys 3 happening?
The August 3, 2025 AlloCiné interview does not announce that The Bad Guys 3 has been greenlit, cancelled, or begun production. It frames the characters’ return as an open possibility. Perifel’s enthusiasm about the creative ingredients of the franchise should not be read as a production update.
A separate interview by The AU Review with Perifel and producer Damon Ross discusses how the sequel evolved during production, but those comments also do not confirm a third film: The AU Review interview.
What did Perifel mean by “all the ingredients”?
Perifel described the first film’s appeal as a balance of story, visual style, and comedy. In the French interview, he said: “Je crois que nous avons réussi à trouver l’équilibre entre un scénario efficace, un visuel sophistiqué et un humour absurde.” In English: “I think we managed to find the balance between an effective screenplay, sophisticated visuals and absurd humor.”

He added, “C’est notre façon de montrer notre amour du cinéma et des films de genre” (“That’s our way of showing our love of cinema and genre films”). In this context, the “ingredients” are creative choices—an effective story, sophisticated visuals, and absurd humor—not evidence of a plan for another sequel.
How does The Bad Guys 2 change the formula?
Perifel said the first film drew on the conventions of heist movies, while the sequel shifts toward action. He cited James Bond and Ocean’s Eleven as inspirations, and described adding genre elements such as a car chase, a fight, and a major final twist.

As he put it in French: “Nous avons emprunté les codes d’un nouveau genre et nous l’avons développé avec des éléments indispensables comme une course poursuite en voiture, de la baston et un gros twist final.” That translates as: “We borrowed the conventions of a new genre and developed it with essential elements such as a car chase, a fight, and a big final twist.”

The interview also discusses a trio of female antagonists adapted from characters in Aaron Blabey’s books. Perifel said the filmmakers wanted to give the characters more context, and found it interesting to have them try to take the Bad Guys’ place.

He remarked, “Un bon méchant est toujours meilleur que le héros. Au début du moins.” Translated from the French interview, that means: “A good villain is always better than the hero. At least at the beginning.”
