Has the Final Fantasy IX remake been confirmed?
No. The official Square Enix material reviewed does not announce a remake, a remake series, or a release date. In an August 11, 2026 report, Nintendo Life attributed claims about a past remake project and its status to comments by RPG Site editor Alex Donaldson. That is secondary reporting about an unconfirmed project, not confirmation from Square Enix.

Square Enix’s official Final Fantasy series page lists IX as a mainline title. Its 25th-anniversary page celebrates the existing game and lists anniversary merchandise; neither page announces a remake.
Is the FFIX remake coming out in 2028?
There is no official 2028 release window for an FFIX remake. The reported 2028 target is associated with an animated series, not a remake game. In March 2026, Time Extension reported that Euro Visual’s website listed a Final Fantasy IX animated series as in production. The outlet said the 2028 target came from a separate industry report and noted that no official release date had been announced.

Is the 2028 date for the FFIX anime or a game?
It is associated with the animated adaptation in the reporting, not a game. Keep the three subjects separate:
- The existing game: Square Enix says Final Fantasy IX was released on July 7, 2000, and marked its 25th anniversary in 2025.
- The remake rumor: Secondary reporting has attributed claims about a past project and its status to Alex Donaldson; Square Enix has not confirmed a remake or date in the official materials cited above.
- The animated series: Secondary reporting describes it as in production and associates it with a 2028 target, while also noting there is no official release date.
A likely source of numeral confusion is Square Enix’s separate Final Fantasy VII Remake page. It concerns VII, not IX, and does not establish an FFIX remake.

Square Enix’s anniversary material concerns the original game and related merchandise. Its 25th-anniversary page lists items including the “FINAL FANTASY IX 25th Anniversary Vinyl – Timeless Tales.” A merchandise listing is not evidence of a remake, and availability may change.
