Harry Potter and the Cursed Child arrived in Indian bookstores on 31 July 2016 as a hardcover book of the play’s script—not as an Indian stage-production premiere. Hachette India announced an 11:30 a.m. IST release and identified the Indian-subcontinent edition by ISBN 9780751565355.
What was released in India?
The release was Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts 1 and 2, the script book for the stage play. Hachette India described it as a hardcover edition for sale in the Indian subcontinent. Readers looking for that edition can use ISBN 9780751565355 to identify it. The publisher’s 21 July 2016 announcement set the bookstore release for 11:30 a.m. IST on 31 July.
The date was also Harry Potter’s birthday, a connection noted in the indexed Scroll headline. That framing helps explain the anticipation around the release, but the confirmed event was a book launch. The available announcement does not establish that an Indian stage run opened then.
What is the story and how is it presented?
The play is presented as the eighth Harry Potter story. Its story is based on an original idea by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany, and Jack Thorne; Thorne wrote the play, and Tiffany directed it. The official Wizarding World synopsis follows Harry as an overworked Ministry of Magic employee, husband, and father of three. His youngest son, Albus, struggles with the weight of the family legacy, while Harry confronts a past that refuses to remain buried.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Because this edition is a play script, it gives readers the text written for the stage rather than a conventional prose novel. The publisher called the play the first official Harry Potter story presented on stage; that description refers to the work’s form, not to an Indian production.
What surrounded the launch?
Hachette India said bookstores were preparing for the release and described fan events, parties, and activities planned in bookstores and popular hubs in Indian metros. Its announcement also promoted a signed-copy contest running from 22 July through 5 August 2016. These were launch-period plans announced by the publisher, not evidence of a nationwide stage tour or verified attendance figures.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does the 2016 release mean the play opened in India?
No such conclusion is supported by the release announcement. It announced the Indian sale of the script book, while the official Cursed Child collection directs readers to production and ticket information without naming an Indian production in the reviewed material. A book’s availability in India and a play’s staging there are separate events; this release confirms the former, not the latter.
