The Southern connection in Hallmark’s The More the Merrier is star Rachel Boston, whom the title’s coverage identifies as a Tennessee native. The film also features a separate real-world story involving Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin and Abbott’s HeartMates community—but that connection is not what makes the movie Southern.
What is the special connection to the South?
It is Rachel Boston’s Tennessee background. That is a personal connection through the film’s star, not evidence that the movie is set in the South or was filmed there. The article identifying the connection describes Boston as a Tennessee native: Southern Living.

What is The More the Merrier about?
Hallmark’s official synopsis follows Alice (Boston), an emergency-room doctor at a small rural hospital who volunteers for the Christmas Eve overnight shift. A snowstorm strands staff and patients, and three women go into labor—including the only obstetrician for miles around. Alice and newly hired cardiologist Brian (Brendan Penny) work with the hospital team through the unexpected rush while trying to preserve the holiday spirit. Hallmark’s film page lists the movie as streaming on Hallmark+; availability can vary by territory.
What is Damar Hamlin doing in the movie?
Hamlin appears in a segment with members of HeartMates, the community-support program he represents as an ambassador. Hallmark’s cast page confirms his appearance and links the scene to children with health issues.
#1 Best Overall
- Jean Arthur and Joel McCrea star in this delightful comedy about a working girl who sublets half her apartment to two bachelors, with romantic results.
Abbott, which announced the film partnership, says the fictional 14-year-old patient David was inspired by HeartMates member Zeke Mankins. The company also describes Hamlin as a HeartMates ambassador and says community members appear with him. Those program and participant details are Abbott’s account of the partnership, rather than independent medical reporting. Abbott’s announcement quotes Hamlin describing the value of support after a heart-health event: “Going through a heart health event can be isolating, but having people around you who know what you’ve been through can make all the difference.”

Boston said in a November 2025 interview that she was in Vancouver while Hamlin and HeartMates guests filmed their segment at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York. The interview establishes those locations for the account she described, but not every production location. Neither location makes the film a Southern production: the South connection remains Boston’s Tennessee roots.
