Its highest-ranked entry is Pan’s Labyrinth at 95% on the Tomatometer; its lowest is Blade II at 57%. The site’s profile separately lists Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio at 96%, but does not place it in the guide’s ranking. Because those sources do not provide a reconciled 13-film order, the list below preserves the guide’s published sequence and identifies Pinocchio separately.
Rotten Tomatoes’ current Guillermo del Toro ranking
The order and scores below are those shown in Rotten Tomatoes’ guide, published November 5, 2025. The Tomatometer is Rotten Tomatoes’ critics-score metric, not an audience score or a measure of personal preference. Scores can change as the site updates its ratings, so treat them as a dated snapshot rather than a permanent verdict. See the Rotten Tomatoes ranking guide.
- Pan’s Labyrinth (2006) — 95%. The guide places this grim fantasy first. Set in 1944 Spain, it brings the horrors of reality and fantasy together as a fable and political commentary.
- The Devil’s Backbone (2001) — 93%. A ghost story shaped as political allegory, combining supernatural dread with the upheaval of its historical setting.
- The Shape of Water (2017) — 92%. An emotionally absorbing fantasy led by Sally Hawkins, representing a more romantic and intimate side of del Toro’s work.
- Cronos (1993) — 88%. Del Toro’s feature debut brings horror and fantasy together in an early expression of the creature-centered imagination that would run through his career.
- Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008) — 86%. The guide describes this comic-book sequel as imaginative, a pick for viewers drawn to fantastical creatures and superhero adventure.
- Frankenstein (2025) — 85%. The guide includes del Toro’s 2025 film at this position. Rotten Tomatoes’ profile also lists it at 85% Tomatometer and 94% audience score; those are separate metrics.
- Hellboy (2004) — 81%. The earlier comic-book adaptation sits below its sequel in the guide’s order.
- Nightmare Alley (2021) — 80%. A modern noir thriller, showing del Toro working outside the fantasy and creature-feature modes most associated with his filmography.
- Pacific Rim (2013) — 72%. A science-fiction creature feature built around large-scale monster spectacle.
- Crimson Peak (2015) — 72%. An atmospheric gothic story, distinct from the action-driven spectacle of Pacific Rim, though the two share the same Tomatometer percentage in this guide.
- Mimic (1997) — 68%. A studio creature thriller. Rotten Tomatoes’ guide notes that its reception sent del Toro back abroad.
- Blade II (2002) — 57%. The guide’s lowest-ranked film. Its Critics Consensus criticizes the sequel’s plot and character development.
Where Pinocchio fits—and why there is no 13th rank here
Rotten Tomatoes’ profile lists Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio (2022) at 96% Tomatometer and 85% audience score. The ranking guide does not include it, even though its title says “All Guillermo del Toro Movies.” The available pages therefore establish a separate profile score, not a corrected position in the ranked list. Check Rotten Tomatoes’ Guillermo del Toro profile.
The guide says the long-gestating adaptation of Carlo Collodi’s classic tale was released in December 2022. If you are choosing a film, use the guide’s 12-entry sequence as published and consider Pinocchio separately; inserting it at first place solely because its profile percentage is higher would create a ranking the guide itself does not make.

How to use the ranking
The percentage is a useful starting point, but the list spans markedly different kinds of filmmaking. Choose by the experience you want as well as the score: Pan’s Labyrinth for dark fantasy and political allegory, The Devil’s Backbone for ghost-story atmosphere, The Shape of Water for romantic fantasy, Crimson Peak for gothic mood, Nightmare Alley for noir, or the Hellboy films and Pacific Rim for comic-book or creature-feature spectacle. Rotten Tomatoes’ ranking is a critics-score ordering, not a substitute for those genre distinctions.
