The 66th Grammy Awards brought classic glamour, archival references and more experimental red-carpet styling to Los Angeles on February 4, 2024. Standouts included Taylor Swift in custom Schiaparelli, Miley Cyrus in Maison Margiela chainmail and Boygenius in matching Thom Browne suits. “Best dressed” is a matter of taste; the looks below show the range rather than declare a single winner.
What shaped the 2024 Grammys red carpet?
The ceremony took place at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. The Recording Academy’s red-carpet recap focuses on artists discussing their nominations, wins and what might come next. For the clothes, Vogue’s selection and gallery offer a view of the night’s fashion; its “best dressed” choices are editorial, not an official award or objective ranking.
Vogue saw Old Hollywood glamour alongside avant-garde styling, with looks drawing on the Roaring ’20s, the 1990s and the early 2000s. That is an editorial reading of the carpet, not a formal dress code or a measured trend survey. Across the outfits, silhouette, tailoring, surface and accessories made for more useful comparisons than a single winner.
Classic glamour, with a modern edge
Taylor Swift in Schiaparelli
Swift wore a custom white, strapless Schiaparelli Couture gown with a draped corset, train and high side slit, paired with long black velvet gloves and multiple necklaces, according to the Associated Press. Vogue also highlighted the black opera gloves. The contrast between the pale gown and dark gloves gave the look a sharp, graphic finish. Some fans read the black-and-white styling as a nod to Swift’s Reputation era; that was fan interpretation, not confirmed intent.

Victoria Monét in Versace
Monét wore a bronze, strapless custom Versace corseted gown. The Associated Press described the body-hugging look as evoking Old Hollywood and noted her Bulgari serpent necklace. Her daughter Hazel wore a matching Versace outfit. Monét told the outlet, “I feel expensive.”
Janelle Monáe in Giorgio Armani Privé
Monáe’s liquid-sequined gown had a plunging neckline and a large rosette at the waist, the Associated Press reported. Vogue identified the designer as Armani Privé. Monáe told E!, “I’m feeling classic, timeless, futuristic,” and said, “I’m standing in Black pride, in a state of joy.” The combination of liquid shine and sculptural detail made the look feel both polished and theatrical.
Couture that took a risk
Miley Cyrus in Maison Margiela
Cyrus wore a custom sheer chain-mesh gown by Maison Margiela, designed by John Galliano, with a sky-high bouffant, according to the Associated Press. Vogue described the dress as armor-like chainmail. Its metallic surface and dramatic hair gave the outfit an intentionally maximalist character. Harper’s Bazaar digital culture editor Bianca Betancourt called it “the type of over-the-top camp we love and want from the Grammys,” as quoted by the Associated Press.
Dua Lipa in Courrèges
Lipa’s long-sleeved Courrèges look used chunky embellishment and subtle hip cutouts. Vogue framed it as a high-fashion disco-ball moment. The Associated Press described her Tiffany & Co. fish-like necklace as featuring diamonds, orange sapphires and other gems, totaling 23 carats. The reflective outfit and statement necklace made surface and accessories work together rather than compete.

Boygenius in Thom Browne
Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus wore matching cropped white Thom Browne suits with pink carnations, the Associated Press reported. The coordinated tailoring brought a formal menswear silhouette into a distinctive group look, with the flowers providing a restrained accent.
Billie Eilish in Chrome Hearts
Eilish paired a shirt and tie with a Barbie jacket—a vintage piece reworked for her by Chrome Hearts, according to the Associated Press. Vogue listed the look under Chrome Hearts. The jacket’s vintage reference and the familiar shirt-and-tie combination made this a different kind of statement from the eveningwear elsewhere on the carpet.

How to read the night’s fashion choices
- Silhouette: Swift’s train and side slit, Monét’s corseted shape and Boygenius’s cropped suits show how different outlines can define a look before color or embellishment does.
- Surface: Cyrus’s chain mesh, Lipa’s chunky embellishment and Monáe’s liquid sequins each used texture and shine in a distinct way.
- Reference: Old Hollywood, vintage clothing and historic tailoring appeared as visual cues, not as a shared dress code.
- Accessories: Swift’s gloves and Lipa’s 23-carat necklace drew attention to accessories as central elements of the styling, rather than finishing touches alone.
Esquire style director Jonathan Evans told the Associated Press that the carpet seemed “more subdued” than in earlier years, adding that quieter looks had room to shine but that “a bit of bombast is always fun.” The contrast between restrained tailoring and more theatrical choices helps explain why the night resists a single definition of “best dressed.”
