The 2025 Grammy predictions converged on Beyoncé for Album of the Year—and she won. Before the 67th GRAMMY Awards on February 2, 2025, the Associated Press and Axios both forecast a Beyoncé victory for COWBOY CARTER. Axios separately named Charli xcx’s BRAT as its choice for the year’s best album, illustrating the difference between predicting a winner and judging artistic merit.

What were the 2025 Album of the Year predictions?
In pre-ceremony coverage, the Associated Press’s Maria Sherman and Jonathan Landrum Jr. each picked Beyoncé to win. Axios also predicted a Beyoncé victory, while making a different choice when it came to artistic preference: it said Charli xcx had the best album with BRAT. These examples show a shared forecast among the cited outlets, not a consensus among all critics or Grammy voters.

The distinction matters: “who will win” is a prediction about an award outcome; “who should win” is a judgment of merit. The AP and Axios picks were published before the ceremony, and Beyoncé’s eventual win matched those forecasts.

Album of the Year is not simply a contest between lead performers. Producers, songwriters, recording engineers, mixers and mastering engineers contribute to nominated albums, and the award’s recognition extends across that work. The Academy’s category listings provide credits for the nominees, making them a useful companion to listening.

For the 67th ceremony, eligible recordings had to be released from September 16, 2023, through August 30, 2024. That is the historical window for the 2025 awards, not a current eligibility rule.

In its November 8, 2024 nominations announcement, the Recording Academy described the GRAMMYs as peer-voted and reported a voting membership of 13,000. That figure describes the membership at the time of the announcement; it should not be read as a current count. Academy CEO Harvey Mason jr. said, “Today we celebrate the amazing creative achievements of our music community,” in the same announcement.
