The setup leans on familiar crime-drama machinery, but the finale’s peril for one of Roy Grace’s team members gives the case a personal edge. In Brittany Frederick’s CBR review, the episode is entertaining overall and its cast is a particular strength; that is one critic’s assessment, not a consensus.
What happens in “Love You Dead”?
ITV’s synopsis begins with the discovery of a former Brighton offender’s body in gruesome circumstances. His wife says he had changed, but evidence suggests he may have returned to burglary. As Grace’s team investigates, a New York police contact asks him to help locate a woman believed to have fled to Brighton. Crimes in France bear the hallmarks of a US mafia hit, and police believe the woman is in danger.
The threads converge as a former adversary reappears. A death in a neighboring county provides a missing clue, and Grace sets a trap that could put a member of his team’s life at risk. Those are the published plot details; ITV’s synopsis does not disclose the trap’s outcome.
Does the split investigation work?
The episode’s central challenge is making the local death and the international search feel like parts of one finale rather than competing cases. The Brighton investigation has an immediate mystery—whether the dead man had truly turned his life around—while the New York contact’s request brings in a separate danger and a woman to find. The former adversary and the clue from a neighboring county provide the stated links between the strands.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That structure gives the episode room to move from a familiar question of evidence and reputation to a wider threat. It also asks viewers to track several pieces of business at once. Whether those strands feel fully balanced is a matter of execution, but the official setup makes clear that both feed into Grace’s final trap.
Is the finale worth watching?
Frederick’s CBR review describes the finale as familiar in its crime-drama turns but entertaining overall, with the cast singled out as a major strength. That makes the episode sound like a satisfying continuation for viewers who value the team and performances, even if its plot mechanics feel recognizable. The verified review excerpt does not provide a numerical score, so there is no score to report.

As a season-ending story, its clearest hook is the danger created by Grace’s trap: the risk extends beyond solving the case to the safety of someone on his team. Viewers looking for an entirely unexpected kind of crime story may find the familiar turns less compelling; those invested in Grace and his colleagues have a stronger reason to stay with the finale.
