Short answer: The code AB3Z3ENNBL22QVGRSA00HJ8 was reported as a $0.99 Google Play movie-rental promotion on December 22, 2016. It is not verified as active today and should be presumed expired. Google’s current movie-rental instructions point users to Google TV and YouTube, not the old Google Play Movies workflow.
The 2016 code and what it promised

Droid Life reported that the code could reduce one eligible movie rental to $0.99, including SD or HD, and described it as applying to any movie available to rent. The post was published on December 22, 2016, and explicitly said the offer was “YMMV” — your mileage may vary — because it worked for some accounts but not necessarily everyone. If you are looking for a code to use today, treat this one as historical and unverified. Google’s current support pages do not confirm that it remains valid. The original report did not establish a permanent promotion, a worldwide offer, or a present-day redemption route.

Google’s movie storefront and navigation have changed since 2016. Google announced a transition away from Google Play Movies & TV on selected web and TV-device workflows, with changes beginning January 17, 2024. Google’s current help directs people to rent and watch through Google TV, Android TV, or YouTube, depending on their device and location. Google’s transition announcement and current Google TV rental instructions explain the newer routes.

The 2016 post linked to Google Play and mentioned manual code entry, but it does not document a currently supported way to redeem this specific promotion. Don’t assume an old link or code-entry screen still works, and don’t infer that a current Google TV or YouTube rental will receive the old discount.
How to rent a movie now
In the Google TV app
- Open the Google TV app and search or browse for a movie.
- Open the movie’s details page. If needed, tap the downward arrow to see its options.
- Select Rent or Buy, then review the price and complete checkout with your Google account.
- To find it later, go to Your stuff → Library while signed in to the same account.
Labels and availability can vary by app version, country, and device. See Google’s instructions for renting or buying movies.

On a Google TV device
Search for the movie, open its details, review the available ways to watch, then choose Rent or Buy. The available options and labels may differ by device or region.
On Android TV
Open the Shop tab, find the movie, open its title page, and select Rent or Buy. Find rentals afterward in Your Library. The Shop tab and catalog may not be available on every device or in every region. See Google’s Android TV instructions.

On the web
Google’s current guidance points web users to YouTube for buying, renting, and watching many Google movie transactions. Follow the options shown for the title in your location rather than relying on an old Google Play Movies web link. Google explains where to watch Google Play purchases.
Check the rental terms before paying
A rental is temporary access, not ownership. Google says most rentals last 30 days from purchase, but the viewing window after playback starts can be shorter. Check the individual title’s details—under Additional Information → Rental Period where shown—because terms can vary by title or region. Don’t assume every rental has the same playback deadline. Rentals and purchases are associated with the Google account used for the transaction, so use that same account to find the title in your library. Renting is also different from buying: Android TV’s help page says a rental cost cannot be applied toward a later purchase, and you must wait until the rental expires before buying that title. If you try the old code anyway
There is no reliable evidence that the code remains active. If you encounter a redemption field, proceed only if the service clearly displays the final price before payment. Stop if checkout does not show $0.99; do not confirm a higher charge expecting the discount to apply later.

- If Google displays a promotion, review its account, country, payment, and title restrictions; availability is not universal.
- If an old link fails, use the current Google TV or YouTube route instead. Google does not document a current redemption path for this particular code.
- Do not repeatedly submit the code or give your Google credentials to an unofficial service claiming it can activate it.
If the Google TV app is missing library features, update it if possible. Google says app versions older than 4.27 may have limited functionality; its help also points users to YouTube for accessing existing purchases if updating is not possible.
