Google and NBCUniversal announced a long-term agreement on October 2, 2025, keeping NBCUniversal’s named broadcast, news, sports and entertainment networks on YouTube TV and avoiding a lasting blackout. The deal also linked YouTube TV carriage with separate distribution arrangements for Peacock, YouTube programming, Universal films and Google’s Android ecosystem.
What Google and NBCUniversal agreed to
NBCUniversal described the arrangement as a multi-year commitment covering more than ordinary channel carriage. Its main elements were:
- YouTube TV: continued carriage of NBCUniversal’s full portfolio of networks named in the announcement.
- Peacock: planned availability as a separately purchased subscription through YouTube Primetime Channels.
- YouTube: continued distribution of NBCUniversal clips, highlights and shows.
- Google TV and YouTube: continued opportunities to buy or rent Universal Pictures films and television content.
- Google platforms: a multi-year extension for Peacock availability across Android, including Google Play and Google TV.

“Full portfolio” refers to the networks included in the agreement, not a promise that every local station or package is available everywhere. Local NBC and Telemundo availability depends on the viewer’s market, while YouTube TV package rules can determine channel access.
Why a blackout had been threatened
Before the settlement, NBCUniversal warned that its channels could be removed if the existing contract expired without a renewal. Google said NBCUniversal was seeking higher carriage payments and argued that the requested terms could raise costs and reduce flexibility for subscribers. The companies reached a short-term extension during negotiations before announcing the longer agreement.

Did NBCUniversal channels go dark?
No lasting NBCUniversal blackout resulted from the 2025 negotiations. YouTube TV retained access to NBC, Bravo, E!, Telemundo, USA Network and the other named networks under the agreement. That continuity is a result of the settlement, not a guarantee that YouTube TV can never face another carriage dispute.

What the agreement means for YouTube TV subscribers
Existing live-TV access continued
Subscribers avoided losing NBCUniversal broadcast, news, entertainment and sports networks during the dispute, including local NBC or Telemundo stations where YouTube TV carries them.
Peacock was not added to the base plan
The 2025 announcement described Peacock as a separate subscription sold through YouTube Primetime Channels. Buying Peacock through that marketplace is different from receiving Peacock automatically with a standard YouTube TV membership. NBCUniversal also says Peacock Premium Plus is available through YouTube Primetime Channels; billing, cancellation and promotions may follow that marketplace’s terms.

The NBC Sports Network point of confusion
NBCUniversal’s October 2025 announcement said it planned to launch a new NBC Sports Network later that fall and make it available on YouTube TV. That statement should not be confused with the former NBC Sports Network cable channel, which ceased operations in 2021. The announcement did not provide a complete launch schedule, channel number, package placement or a verified 2026 lineup, so current availability should be checked directly in YouTube TV.

What changed in 2026
On July 27, 2026, NBCUniversal and YouTube announced a broader strategic partnership that extended the multi-year YouTube TV distribution relationship. It also planned a new U.S. bundle combining Peacock Premium with YouTube Premium beginning in early 2027. As of August 18, 2026, that bundle was not yet available, and its price and exact eligibility had not been disclosed.
The 2026 expansion also included plans for selected NBCUniversal live sporting events on the NBC Sports YouTube channel, international expansion for Universal+ and Hayu, and advertising, technology and sports-production cooperation. See the NBCUniversal announcement and YouTube’s announcement.
How to evaluate the deal as a viewer
- If you need live NBC, Bravo, MSNBC, USA, CNBC, Telemundo or Golf Channel, verify the current YouTube TV lineup and local-station availability for your ZIP code.
- If you mainly want Peacock originals, Universal films or Peacock-exclusive sports, compare a separate Peacock subscription with the cost of a full live-TV service.
- If you are considering YouTube Premium, treat the Peacock benefit as a planned early-2027 feature, not an active benefit in 2026.
- If you subscribe through Primetime Channels, review account-management and cancellation terms separately from direct Peacock billing.
- Do not assume every NBCUniversal program is live on YouTube TV or included in its on-demand library; rights vary by product and market.
Official destinations include YouTube TV, Peacock, YouTube Premium, YouTube paid memberships and Google TV. Check current prices, taxes, regional fees, promotional conditions and cancellation terms at checkout.
Bottom line for subscribers
The October 2025 agreement protected YouTube TV’s NBCUniversal channel lineup while creating a wider partnership across Peacock, YouTube, Universal content and Google platforms. It did not make Peacock free with YouTube TV. The 2026 extension adds a planned Peacock Premium and YouTube Premium bundle for early 2027, but that remains a separate future offering.
