After Chock leaves following the death of his mother, Joan Vassos says she can see a future with more than one person. Week 4 of The Golden Bachelorette, which aired October 9, 2024, makes that uncertainty understandable: Joan has meaningful moments with Chock, Jordan, and Guy, while still weighing the connections in front of her.

What happened on Joan’s group date?

The episode opens with Joan, nine suitors, Kaitlyn Bristowe, and Chippendales dancers on a group date intended to raise awareness for Stand Up to Cancer. Joan initially worries the event could feel uncomfortable, but the men embrace its charitable purpose, according to People’s October 10, 2024 recap. ABC’s official Week 4 synopsis also identifies the date’s charity connection.

At the afterparty, Joan tells Chock she wants more time with him and believes they could have a future together. She gives him the group-date rose, a clear sign that their connection matters to her.

Why does Chock leave, and does he return?

The next day, Chock learns that his mother has died and leaves to be with his family, People reports. ABC’s synopsis describes a suitor delivering shocking news but does not name him. The departure is prompted by a family loss, not a breakup or rose-ceremony elimination.

#1 Best Overall

Chock returns before the rose ceremony. After his return, Joan tells him, “I see a future with more than one person,” according to People’s recap. The line reflects her uncertainty as she considers several relationships; it is not a final decision about whom she will choose.

What happens on Jordan and Guy’s dates?

Jordan’s ice-skating date

Joan and Jordan go ice skating, then talk about his divorce and raising his children. The conversation gives Joan a closer look at his life and the experiences shaping him. She gives Jordan a rose. A surprise performance by REO Speedwagon closes the date.

Guy’s cooking date

Joan and Guy make lemon-baked ziti together. Their conversation turns to Guy’s 34-year marriage and its end. Joan gives him a rose, marking another connection that continues beyond the date.

Who receives roses, and who goes home?

At the cocktail party, the men bring Joan small callbacks to the group date, including Jonathan’s personalized Cheerios box and Mark’s toy fire engine. When Chock is back, the ceremony proceeds. People reports that Joan gives roses to Pascal, Jonathan, Mark, and Keith. Gary, Gil, Dan, and Charles L. leave the show.

What Joan’s comment means in the episode

The episode places Joan’s comment in the context of several developing relationships. Chock had just received a meaningful rose before leaving for a family emergency; Jordan and Guy each share a personal conversation with Joan and receive roses on their one-on-ones. Her words acknowledge that she can imagine more than one possible future at this point in the season—not that she has made her final choice.

ABC describes Joan as the first Golden Bachelorette, a 61-year-old grandmother and school administrator from Rockville, Maryland. She had previously left The Golden Bachelor after a medical concern involving her daughter, and her husband died after 32 years of marriage. That background gives the episode’s conversations about love and a future together added weight without making grief a plot twist or an easy resolution.

Where to watch

For the 2024 season, ABC listed the show for Wednesdays at 8/7c and said episodes streamed on Hulu. ABC’s series page described next-day streaming. Those details refer to the season’s stated schedule and are not confirmation of current 2026 availability or streaming terms.
