Ghosts Season 4 is a confident, funny return to the show’s best rhythms: a lively ensemble, supernatural rules that keep generating fresh complications, and relationship comedy rooted in the characters rather than a single season-long mystery. Across 22 episodes, Patience’s arrival and Jay’s restaurant ambitions give Woodstone new story fuel without crowding out the ghosts’ individual lives.
Season 4 keeps Woodstone’s ensemble at the center
CBS aired the fourth season from October 17, 2024, through May 8, 2025, for 22 episodes. Its premise remains a useful comic engine: Sam and Jay are turning an inherited country estate into a bed-and-breakfast, while Sam can see and hear the spirits already living there. The season’s strongest choice is not to make that setup serve one overriding mystery. Instead, it moves between the living couple’s plans and the ghosts’ distinct wants, rivalries, and romantic entanglements.
The opener, “Patience,” sends Sam and the ghosts searching for Isaac, who has encountered Patience, a Puritan spirit lost in the dirt. Mary Holland plays Patience, whose arrival brings a new personality—and a new source of friction—into the house. The following episode, “Sam’s Dad,” brings Sam’s father (Dean Norris) to Woodstone, while Patience tests their relationship and Isaac deals with his breakup with Nigel. Thor and Flower, meanwhile, navigate Nancy. These threads show the season’s approach in miniature: a supernatural disruption, a family or relationship complication, and smaller character pairings all share the hour.
Individual stories keep the comedy varied
Season 4’s plots range well beyond Patience. Trevor’s remote-work catfishing scheme drives “The Work Retreat,” while Alberta helps Sam audition for community theater in “A Star Is Dead.” In “The Primary Source,” Sam and Jay look for a diary to help with Sam’s biography of Isaac. The two-part Arondekar Christmas story gives the season a holiday change of pace, and Jay’s attempt to open a restaurant recurs across several February and March episodes.

That restaurant thread gives Jay a goal of his own, while the ensemble stories keep the show from feeling like a sequence of unrelated ghost-of-the-week bits. The season also returns to the rules and limits of being a ghost, but uses them to sharpen character comedy: Thor goes back to therapy, Hetty’s ghost power is revealed, Pete helps Sasappis meet Shiki, and the group tries to repair the ghost trap so Sasappis can cross the ghost boundary. The supernatural mechanics matter because of what they mean to the people caught up in them.
The result is a season that feels busy but not dependent on one elaborate arc to sustain it. The variety of pairings gives the cast room to play off one another, and the recurring threads provide enough continuity to make Woodstone feel like a community rather than a backdrop. That balance is what makes “return to form” a fair description: the show finds momentum in its ensemble and comic premises, not in a wholesale reinvention.

Ghosts Season 4 finale: what it leaves open
Spoilers for the Season 4 finale. “The Devil Went Down to Woodstone,” which aired May 8, 2025, centers on Sam and Jay hosting a party to launch Sam and Isaac’s vampire book. The official synopsis establishes the event, while the finale’s critical response points to a cliffhanger: Gissane Sophia of Lady Geeks Media described a daring ending paired with an unexpectedly soft moment. The episode thus closes on a combination suited to the series—an escalation that invites questions about what comes next, set against an emotional beat rather than a purely mechanical tease.
The available finale synopsis does not spell out the cliffhanger’s specifics, so it is best not to treat it as a fully explained resolution. The season’s final effect is to leave the ensemble’s relationships and supernatural predicament in motion. The vampire book is part of the fictional story, not a real tie-in publication.

Is Ghosts Season 4 good?
Yes, for viewers who value character-driven sitcom comedy and an ensemble that can turn a supernatural limitation into a story. The season is at its best when it lets different combinations of ghosts and living characters collide, whether through Patience’s unsettling presence, Jay’s restaurant plans, or the more personal stories involving Thor, Hetty, Pete, and Sasappis. It does not need every episode to push one central mystery forward; the pleasure is in seeing the house’s residents complicate one another’s plans.
That is a qualitative verdict, not a claim of universal critical consensus. Rotten Tomatoes’ finale listing displays two critic reviews. Alicia Gilstorf of Tell-Tale TV gave the finale 3/5 and praised the ensemble’s continuing humor and freshness; Sophia’s review highlighted its cliffhanger and softer emotional note. Those are responses to the finale listing, not season-wide ratings or proof of broad agreement. No season-level audience or ratings statistic is established here.
