She was undefeated in three professional bouts and won gold at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games. In a public post, O’Connor described experiencing a miscarriage and later receiving a cancer diagnosis; the available reporting does not establish a link between the two.
Who was Georgia O’Connor?
O’Connor, also known after her marriage as Georgia Cardinali, was a boxer from Durham. She built a decorated amateur career before turning professional in 2021. The World Boxing Council describes her as a five-time English national and Commonwealth champion and a two-time world and European champion. World Boxing Council
She won gold at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games. As a professional, she recorded three wins and no losses, with victories over Ester Konecna, Erica Juana Gabriela Álvarez and Joyce Van. What did O’Connor say about miscarriage and cancer?
In a post marking her 25th birthday on 18 February, O’Connor wrote, as quoted by E!: “I’ve been pregnant with a beautiful baby, suffered a miscarriage, then got diagnosed with ‘incurable’ cancer.” This is her reported personal account, not independently reviewed medical documentation. The sequence she described does not show that the miscarriage caused the cancer. E!

What is known about her death?
O’Connor died on 22 May 2025, aged 25. A Los Angeles Times report published the following day said no cause of death had been given. The available reports do not establish an official cause of death. Los Angeles Times

Promoter BOXXER, in a statement reported by BBC Sport, called her “a true warrior inside and outside the ring” and described her as talented, courageous and determined. The organization said the boxing community had lost a young woman who was loved and admired by her friends at BOXXER.
