From Lyrics to Landscapes: A Taylor Swift Garden Guide

Use recurring rose imagery as a garden’s focal point, then consider ivy or wisteria for greenery and height. Match every plant to your site, space and local growing advice.

A Taylor Swift-inspired garden can turn song imagery into a practical planting plan: make roses the focal point, use ivy for shade or ground cover, and consider wisteria only where a vigorous, large climber has room and support. These are creative connections, not an official planting list or a guarantee that a plant will suit your garden.

What flowers and garden imagery appear in Taylor Swift songs?

A July 3, 2026 survey by Gardens Illustrated identifies roses as a particularly recurring flower in Swift’s songs. Its inventory also discusses ivy, daisy, clover, poppy, wisteria, trees and garden settings. Treat it as a useful guide to imagery, not an official or exhaustive catalogue endorsed by Swift.

The AP Taylor Swift podcast’s November 13, 2024 episode, “E63: Show and Tell – Garden Songs,” considers garden and flower imagery in “ivy,” “Cowboy Like Me” and “The Great War.” The episode description connects those images with themes such as romance, loyalty and loss; those are the podcast’s readings, not confirmed explanations from the songwriter. You can use them as inspiration for a garden’s mood without treating them as definitive meanings.

How do I make a Taylor Swift garden?

Start with your actual site, then choose plants that echo the imagery. A rose-focused bed can provide the central motif; ivy can add greenery in shade or cover the ground; and wisteria can create a dramatic vertical feature if you have substantial space and a strong support. Smaller flower choices can broaden the palette, but the song reference alone does not establish local suitability, safety or maintenance needs.

  • Features a curated mix of 20 unique flower seed packets, including sunflowers, marigolds, cosmos, lavender, and more, for a colorful and diverse garden display.
  1. Assess the space. Note sunlight, soil drainage, available ground area, and any wall or structure that could support a climber.
  2. Choose the garden’s shape. Use shrub roses for a planted bed, a climbing rose for a suitable support, or miniature roses for containers. For shade or ground cover, consider ivy; for a large, sunny structure, consider wisteria.
  3. Check the plant’s mature growth and care needs. In particular, do not place a vigorous climber where its eventual size or support requirements cannot be accommodated.
  4. Verify regional advice before buying or planting. The horticultural guidance below comes from the UK Royal Horticultural Society (RHS); local climate, soil and gardening advice may differ.

Which rose should anchor the garden?

Roses are a strong starting point because they recur in the plant inventory, but a lyric reference cannot tell you which variety will thrive in your yard. The RHS rose-growing guide recommends choosing according to garden conditions and describes a sunny position with free-draining soil that retains moisture without drying out completely as useful general conditions.

Match the rose’s form to the available space: shrub roses suit a bed, climbers need an appropriate support, and miniature roses can work in containers. These are broad forms rather than cultivar recommendations. Check local advice for the varieties and care practices suited to your region.

Can ivy or wisteria add vertical interest?

Ivy: shade-tolerant cover or climber

The RHS describes ivy as adaptable and shade-tolerant, with uses that include climbing, ground cover, houseplants and topiary. Climbing forms can self-cling. Decide whether you want it to cover the ground or climb a surface, and choose with its growth habit in mind. See the RHS ivy-growing guide for its guidance.

Wisteria: a substantial climber

Wisteria can evoke a sweeping, romantic garden scene, but it is not a small-space accent by default. The RHS describes it as a vigorous, long-lived climber that prefers full sun and well-drained soil and can grow to substantial dimensions. Make sure the site has room for its growth and a suitable support before choosing it. Consult the RHS wisteria-growing guide for further guidance.

What should I keep in mind before planting?

  • Separate symbolism from horticulture. A flower’s connection to a song can inspire a design, but it does not establish that the plant is safe, suitable or low-maintenance for your location.
  • Plan for mature growth. This matters especially for wisteria and any climbing plant; account for both the space and the support it will need.
  • Use regional guidance. The RHS sources cited here are UK-based. They do not establish cultivar choices or planting calendars for every climate or region.
  • Keep interpretation attributed. The podcast’s readings of “ivy,” “Cowboy Like Me” and “The Great War” are one way to connect the songs with a garden, rather than confirmed authorial meanings.
