The clearest milestones run from their 2002 Shady/Aftermath connection to a 2023 reunion onstage in Detroit; the details of their first meeting come from a later recollection by 50 Cent.
2002: A professional connection takes shape
50 Cent’s connection to Eminem and Dr. Dre’s orbit dates to 2002, when he entered a joint venture involving Shady Records and Aftermath. The period also linked his song “Wanksta” with the 8 Mile soundtrack. The official Shady Records music catalog anchors 8 Mile in 2002, while reporting on 50 Cent’s later recollection describes the signing that year.
That timeline establishes the professional context, but it does not independently confirm the exact date or sequence of their first meeting.
2003: Get Rich or Die Tryin’ arrives
50 Cent’s Shady-era breakthrough continued with Get Rich or Die Tryin’, which Shady Records lists as released on February 6, 2003. The release is an important marker of the label partnership; it should not be taken to mean Eminem personally produced every track or, by itself, to prove the private state of their friendship.

On February 24, 2014, Shady Records publicly thanked 50 Cent as he moved on to a new situation. Eminem’s statement made the distinction between business and personal ties explicit:
“Both myself and Shady Records are grateful to have had the chance to play a part in 50′s career. Shady simply would not be what it is without 50 Cent. I’ve developed a great friendship with 50 over the years, and that’s not going to change. We know 50 will have success in his new situation, and we remain supporters of both him and G-Unit.”
