Joey’s best Friends episodes are the ones that let Matt LeBlanc’s character shape the joke, move a story forward, or reveal the warmth beneath his easygoing persona. This is a character-focused watch list, not a definitive ranking: Google Play’s The Best of Joey collection offers a useful ten-episode reference, but doesn’t publish a ranking method. The picks below are ordered for variety, from Chandler-and-Joey chemistry to acting-career setbacks and physical comedy.
What makes an episode one of Joey’s best?
Joey’s standout episodes fall into a few overlapping lanes: his acting career and soap-opera plots, his friendship with Chandler, physical or situational comedy, and ensemble stories in which he gets a defining moment. Not every episode here is solely about Joey; the point is that each gives him a memorable role in the comedy or the story.
Google Play’s The Best of Joey is a ten-episode platform collection, not a critical or audience-consensus verdict. These selections use it as a reference while also considering how distinctly Joey drives each episode.
Joey’s 10 best Friends episodes
1. “The One with the Embryos”
Season 4, Episode 12; aired January 15, 1998. Ross’s quiz pits Joey and Chandler against Rachel and Monica, with the competition ending in an apartment swap. Joey’s competitive streak and partnership with Chandler make the game a highlight, even as Phoebe’s surrogacy story gives the episode its emotional center. TV Guide’s 2018 oral history reports that Lisa Kudrow’s pregnancy prompted the writers to develop Phoebe’s surrogate storyline; co-creator David Crane called it “a really different and unexpected way to go, and it was a storyline we had never seen before.”

Season 3, Episode 2. As the friends race to get ready for Ross’s black-tie museum event, Joey turns a fight with Chandler into a physical-comedy set piece by wearing Chandler’s clothes. TIME’s 2020 guide highlights the “could I be wearing any more clothes?” gag: an ideal example of Joey’s broad comic timing inside an ensemble story.
3. “The One Where Eddie Moves In”
Season 2, Episode 17; aired February 22, 1996. With a new roommate in Chandler’s apartment, Joey considers moving back in. The setup puts the friendship at the heart of the episode and gives Joey’s place in Chandler’s life more weight than a simple roommate arrangement.

4. “The One Where Dr. Ramoray Dies”
Season 2, Episode 18; aired March 21, 1996. Joey’s soap-opera character, Dr. Drake Ramoray, is dropped down an elevator shaft. It is a defining acting-career plot: Joey’s work becomes the source of the story’s trouble, and his soap role acquires a life of its own.
5. “The One with the Ballroom Dancing”
Aired October 16, 1997. Joey teaches the building superintendent to ballroom dance in an effort to stop Rachel and Monica from being evicted. His loyalty is the engine of the plot, while the dance lessons give him an unusual skill to put to work. The Google Play collection listing supplies the air date but does not identify the season and episode number in its captured text.

6. “The One with Joey’s Dirty Day”
Aired February 5, 1998. After a three-day fishing trip, Joey heads straight to a movie set without time to shower. The joke depends on his physical state, but the acting job makes the consequence matter: his off-hours habits collide with the professional opportunity he wants.
7. “The One with the Girl Who Hits Joey”
Aired February 18, 1999. Joey dates someone who likes to punch him. The premise turns his confidence and tolerance for absurd situations into the comic hook, making this a straightforward pick for viewers who want a Joey-centered dating story. The Google Play collection listing gives the air date but not a season and episode number in its captured text.
8. “The One with Joey’s Big Break”
Aired May 13, 1999. Joey lands a movie lead and sets off for Las Vegas with Chandler, but the two argue and Joey continues alone. The acting opportunity supplies the career stakes; the road trip makes the story a friendship episode, too. The Google Play collection listing gives the air date but not a season and episode number in its captured text.
9. “The One Where Joey Loses His Insurance”
Aired October 14, 1999. When Joey has gone without acting work, his health insurance expires; then he develops a hernia. This is one of the series’ more grounded career setbacks, with the sitcom predicament showing how precarious work can be for an actor between jobs. The Google Play collection listing gives the air date but not a season and episode number in its captured text.
10. “The One with Mac and C.H.E.E.S.E.”
Aired April 13, 2000. Joey auditions for a major television role in an episode made primarily from clips of earlier shows. The format gives his career ambition a fresh frame: the audition is a new chance for Joey, while the clip structure looks back across the ensemble’s history. The Google Play collection listing gives the air date but not a season and episode number in its captured text.

If you want to broaden the watch list beyond the ten-episode platform collection, two alternatives spotlight different sides of Joey. In “The One With All the Resolutions” (Season 5, Episode 11), he plans to learn guitar; “The One With the Routine” (Season 6, Episode 10) gives him a chance to kiss Janine during a New Year’s television recording. TIME included both in its 2020 episode guide.
“The One with the Nap Partners” and “The One with Ross and Monica’s Cousin” are also part of Google Play’s Joey collection. The first pairs Joey and Ross in a nap-related plot while Rachel and Phoebe compete to be Monica’s maid of honor and Chandler tries to apologize to a girlfriend from his youth. In the second, Monica’s cousin causes complications for Chandler and Ross. They broaden the collection’s range, though their listed plot descriptions put more emphasis on ensemble complications than on Joey’s acting career.
Where to watch or find the Joey collection
Digital catalogs list Friends and the Joey-focused collection, but streaming availability changes by territory and over time. Check the current catalog in your country before planning a watch-through. A historical DVD edition is documented: Filmweb lists Przyjaciele, Best of Joey – DVD, distributed by Warner Home Video, with a sale-release date of October 20, 2006. That historical listing does not establish current stock or whether a particular disc edition works in your region.
