On October 1, 2024, BGR reported that Amazon Freevee and Prime Video had added five Halloween-themed free, ad-supported (FAST) live channels. They were seasonal-style linear feeds, not a promise of permanent channels. By 2026, Amazon’s free live-TV discovery is centered more prominently in Prime Video, and the continued listing of these specific feeds has not been established. Use the guide below to identify what each channel offered and check its current status.
The five channels at a glance
| Channel | What it offered in the 2024 report | Best for | Availability note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scares by Shudder | A rotating selection of horror movies associated with the Shudder brand. | Modern, intense or genre-focused scares | A free FAST feed is not the same as a full Shudder subscription. |
| Buffy the Vampire Slayer | Continuous programming centered on the supernatural television series. | Character-driven supernatural viewing with humor | Primarily a single-series channel. |
| AMC Thrillers | Suspense, thriller and horror-adjacent programming. | Tension without committing to pure horror | “Thriller” can include crime, psychological suspense and darker drama. |
| The Walking Dead Universe | The Walking Dead franchise episodes, interviews and behind-the-scenes material. | Fans wanting a franchise marathon | Not a general horror-movie channel. |
| MGM Presents: Horror | Horror from the MGM film library, including titles cited in the report such as The Hounds of the Baskervilles, The Dunwich Horror, The Town That Dreaded Sundown, Species II and Ghoulies. | Classic, vintage and camp-leaning horror | The cited films describe the 2024 report, not a guaranteed current schedule. |
The original announcement and its October 1, 2024 publication date are documented by BGR.
What each channel was designed to feel like
Scares by Shudder
This was the strongest fit for viewers who wanted horror first. Its rotating movie feed reflected Shudder’s horror identity, but the free channel should not be treated as unlimited access to the paid service’s catalog. For Shudder’s subscription offering, see the official Shudder site.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
The Buffy feed offered a predictable, serialized alternative to random movie scheduling: recurring characters, vampires, demons, action and comedy. It suited a household that wanted Halloween atmosphere without an unbroken run of grim or graphic films. Prime Video’s current destination is Prime Video.

AMC Thrillers
AMC Thrillers was broader than a dedicated horror station. Expect the possibility of mysteries, crime stories, psychological suspense and dark action alongside horror-adjacent titles. It was the sensible choice when viewers wanted tension but had mixed tolerance for gore or supernatural material. AMC’s programming hub is AMC.
The Walking Dead Universe
This 24-hour franchise feed targeted existing fans. The 2024 description included episodes plus cast interviews and behind-the-scenes segments, making it more of a themed network than a varied horror-movie marathon. Franchise information remains available at AMC’s The Walking Dead page.

MGM Presents: Horror
MGM Presents: Horror drew on a studio catalog and therefore leaned toward older, cult and monster-oriented viewing. The films named in the announcement are useful examples of its range, but a linear channel’s lineup can rotate as licensing changes.
Were the channels really free?
Yes, “free” meant free with advertising. FAST stands for free ad-supported television: you watch a scheduled stream interrupted by commercials rather than paying a subscription for that channel feed.

- Enjoy the show in 4K Ultra HD, with support for Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and immersive Dolby Atmos audio.
- You generally do not need a separate paid subscription to the channel itself.
- Free does not mean ad-free, permanent or fully on-demand.
- A channel carrying the Shudder name does not equal a full Shudder membership.
- Amazon says customers can access free-with-ads programming without Prime, although the current app may still require an Amazon account and interface requirements vary.
Amazon’s current explanation of free live and on-demand programming is available in its Prime Video FAST overview.
How to look for them now
- Open the Prime Video app or visit primevideo.com.
- Select Live TV in the current navigation.
- Search each channel name or browse the live-TV genre rows.
- Confirm the channel logo and listing before starting playback.
- Remember that a live feed starts wherever the schedule is at that moment; it is not an on-demand queue.
- If the channel is absent, search for the individual series or film. A title may be available on demand, through a paid add-on, for rental or purchase, or not at all.
Amazon’s 2024 redesign added a dedicated Live TV destination to Prime Video’s main navigation; details are in Amazon’s redesign announcement.

Where they were available in 2024
The BGR report listed Freevee and Prime Video, with access on Fire TV, Android and iOS devices, Roku, Android TV, Apple TV, Google TV, LG smart TVs, Samsung smart TVs and web browsers. That is historical U.S. availability, not a guarantee that every device or channel still supports the same feed in 2026.
What changed between 2024 and 2026?
The word “new” applied to the October 2024 launch, not to the current Halloween season. Amazon’s later public materials describe Prime Video as the main home for a much larger free, ad-supported ecosystem—more than 800 FAST channels in the United States as of December 2025—rather than presenting Freevee as the only destination. Individual channels can be renamed, relocated or removed when licensing changes.

Accordingly, do not assume that all five feeds remain active in August or October 2026. Their 2024 addition is documented; their present-day listings require a live check in your location and on your device.
Quick Recap
Choose by viewing mood
- Serious scares: Scares by Shudder.
- Supernatural comfort viewing: Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
- Suspense without a pure-horror commitment: AMC Thrillers.
- Franchise marathon: The Walking Dead Universe.
- Classic or camp horror: MGM Presents: Horror.
Limits to keep in mind
- FAST channels are linear and scheduled, so you may not be able to start a particular title immediately, select the next program or rewind freely.
- Channel availability, schedules and device support can differ by country, platform and licensing period.
- A franchise channel does not mean every film or episode in that franchise is included.
- Prime Video, Freevee, paid Prime Video Channels and free-with-ads programming are separate categories; seeing one does not automatically grant access to the others.
