Try these checks in order: check Virgin Media’s service status and TV-service test, try another programme, check the TV input and cables, then power-cycle the box and allow up to 10 minutes for it to restart. Read any error code before contacting support.
First, identify what is failing
The right fix depends on the symptom. Is Catch Up unavailable, are all box sets failing, does one film refuse to play, or is only an app such as BBC iPlayer or ITVX affected? Also note whether live TV and the Virgin menus still work. Live TV working while every On Demand title fails usually points toward an internet, On Demand or Virgin-side service problem rather than a faulty television screen.
- One programme only: it may have left the catalogue, have an expired right, or have a programme-specific playback error.
- One app only: the app or its provider may be temporarily unavailable.
- All On Demand content: check service status, broadband and the box’s network connection.
- Live TV, menus and On Demand all fail: check the HDMI source, cables, power and service status.
Fastest troubleshooting sequence
- Check Virgin Media’s area status. Use the service-status page and online TV-service test. It can identify a local fault, offer an online fix and indicate whether an engineer is needed. If an acknowledged outage or planned maintenance is shown, repeated reboots are unlikely to help; retry after the stated restoration window.
- Try a different title. Play another current Catch Up programme or box set. Search for the missing programme again and check that it belongs to your package. A title can disappear when its rights expire. Rented films generally remain replayable for 48 hours after rental, subject to the terms displayed when you rent them; see Virgin Media’s On Demand guidance.
- Check the television input and connections. Select the HDMI input used by the Virgin box. Reseat both ends of the HDMI cable, the box’s power and incoming service cables, and any white splitter cables. Check remote batteries and their orientation.
- Power-cycle the box at the wall. Do not just press standby. Turn the box off at the wall, check that ventilation openings are clear, and let a hot box cool completely. Restore power and wait for startup; Virgin Media says this may take up to 10 minutes while the box reconnects and may download updates. Then try On Demand again. Follow the official reboot instructions.
- Check your broadband. On Demand relies on an internet connection, and Virgin Media lists slow download speeds or a broadband fault as possible causes. Test another household device and look for an unusual status on the Virgin Media Hub, but use Virgin’s TV-service test as the authoritative check rather than assuming a generic speed test proves the TV service is healthy.
- Record and look up the error code. Use Virgin Media’s complete error-code lookup. Codes and menus differ by box generation.

Virgin TV 360
Open Catch Up from the Home screen, or press the microphone button and say “Catch up.” The 360 interface is different from older boxes, so do not rely on V6/TiVo menu paths.

Stream
Stream has separate error documentation. If Stream is unavailable on the television, the Virgin TV Go app may provide a temporary way to watch supported content on a mobile or tablet, depending on your package, rights and app availability. See the Stream error-code guide.
V6 and TiVo
Older boxes commonly use Home > On Demand. Many published codes above apply specifically to V6 and TiVo, not necessarily to 360 or Stream.

When a programme is missing, not broken
On Demand catalogues change. Rights can expire, an episode may be temporarily absent, or a title may not be included in your package. Search the title again, try another episode or channel, and test a current Catch Up programme. For a rental, confirm that the transaction completed and that you are still within its displayed viewing period. Do not factory-reset the box to solve a catalogue change.

Account and billing restrictions
Virgin Media says a new customer may have a service bar following a credit check, or services may be temporarily restricted under spending controls when usage is unusually high. Check account messages and email, confirm payments are current, and note whether only paid rentals fail or free Catch Up fails too. A billing restriction is less likely to explain a failure affecting every free title.

App-specific failures
If Virgin menus, live channels and other services work, try another app or programme first. Retry later if the message says the app is temporarily unavailable, then reboot and run the service test. App availability varies by box generation, package and provider arrangements; labels in older help pages may not match current branding. Avoid deleting recordings or choosing a factory-reset option as an initial remedy.

Escalate through Virgin Media chat or phone support, or book an engineer when the service test identifies a fault that cannot be fixed online or by phone. Contact support when the same code persists after a complete reboot, all On Demand content remains unavailable, the box cannot reconnect, the fault repeatedly returns, or the equipment is overheating or physically damaged. Before contacting them, note your box type, exact code, whether live TV works, whether every title fails, whether other home internet devices work, the service-status result and when you completed the power-cycle.
