Twitch Clips usually fail for one of two reasons: the channel has restricted clipping, or your browser, app, session, or network is interfering. If the Clip button is missing on only one channel, check that channel’s permissions first. If Clips fail everywhere, work through the technical fixes below and check Twitch’s official status page. Twitch’s interface and support rules may differ from pages titled “2024”; the steps here reflect documentation available on August 18, 2026.
Identify the failure before changing anything
Record the exact stage where the process stops. Watching a stream successfully does not prove that your account may create a Clip.
| What you see | Likely cause | First action |
|---|---|---|
| Clip button missing on one channel | Clips disabled, category excluded, or a program restriction | Ask the streamer to check Clip Settings |
| Permission error | Follower-duration, subscriber-only, or account-blocking rule | Confirm your account eligibility |
| “Something went wrong” | Temporary Twitch, browser, extension, or network failure | Retry, refresh, then test without extensions |
| Editor is blank or frozen | Player, cache, extension, or network interference | Use private browsing or another supported browser |
| Works on mobile but not desktop | Desktop browser state or extension conflict | Clear Twitch site data and test another browser |
| Fails on every device and channel | Twitch incident, account issue, or network problem | Check Twitch Status and another network |
Seven solutions, in the least disruptive order
1. Check whether Twitch or the channel has disabled Clips
A viewer cannot override a streamer’s Clip setting. Streamers manage it at Creator Dashboard → Settings → Stream → Clips Settings. The Enable Clips control can be turned off, and categories can be added under Exclude Categories. Twitch also states that Clips are disabled for channels in the DJ program. See Twitch’s Clip Settings guidance.
If clipping fails only on one channel, ask the streamer to verify those settings and whether the current category is excluded. Settings can change without anything changing on your device.

When using an adapter, if the device is recognized as USB 2.0, try using the other side with the USB-C port. Simply flip the capture card and reconnect it to be recognized as USB 3.0
2. Confirm you are logged in and meet eligibility requirements
Twitch says logged-in viewers and streamers can create Clips when the channel permits it. Sign in, then check whether the channel requires followers, a minimum follow duration, or subscribers. Follow the channel and wait out any stated duration; unfollowing and refollowing does not bypass that requirement. Also ask whether your account is blocked. Details are in Twitch’s Clips help page.
On desktop, open the live channel or past broadcast, select Clip on the video player, trim the segment, add a title, and publish. In the mobile app, open the stream and use the Clip control at the top; labels vary by app version. Twitch supports mobile Clip creation, but its current help documentation says portrait editing is not available on mobile.
3. Refresh Twitch, retry, and restart the app or browser
- Copy or note the stream URL.
- Select Retry if the error offers it.
- Refresh the page, or close the Twitch app or browser completely.
- Reopen Twitch, sign in again if necessary, and try a new Clip rather than repeatedly submitting a failed draft.
This can clear a temporary player or session failure. It cannot re-enable Clips that the channel has disabled or remove an eligibility restriction.

4. Disable ad blockers and other extensions temporarily
Twitch specifically recommends disabling add-ons when Clip functions fail. Test in a private/incognito window, sign in if cookies are allowed, and try a Clip. If it works, disable extensions one at a time in your normal window. Check not only ad blockers but also Twitch enhancement tools, privacy and anti-tracking extensions, script blockers, cookie managers, browser shields, and filtering tools that alter Twitch requests.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTwitch provides allowlisting instructions for AdBlock, Adblock Plus, and uBlock Origin at its browser ad guide. Allowlisting is optional and has advertising and privacy trade-offs; use it only if you understand them.
5. Clear Twitch’s site data, cache, and cookies
- Disable extensions first so corrupted requests are not recreated.
- In your browser’s site settings, delete data for
twitch.tvand related Twitch domains. - Restart the browser.
- Sign in again and test the Clip control.
Targeted site-data deletion is preferable to erasing all browsing history. It signs you out and may remove Twitch preferences. It will not fix a channel restriction or a Twitch outage. Twitch’s supported-browser guidance covers this step at https://help.twitch.tv/s/article/supported-browsers?language=en_US.

6. Update Twitch or use a supported alternate browser or device
Update the current browser or Twitch app, then compare results in another device. Twitch’s desktop web support currently lists the latest two versions of Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, plus the most recent Microsoft Edge and Apple Safari. See the supported-browser page. Brave, Vivaldi, and other derivatives may add blocking behavior, so do not assume they function identically.
If the website works but the app does not, force-close the app, install any available update, test the mobile website, and reinstall only as a later app-specific measure. If mobile works while desktop fails, compare desktop extensions, privacy settings, and stored site data.
7. Disable VPNs and test another network, then check Twitch Status
Log out of VPNs and proxies temporarily. Try mobile data instead of Wi-Fi, or Wi-Fi instead of cellular, and test another device if available.

- Works on mobile data but not Wi-Fi: investigate the router, DNS filtering, firewall, ISP, or VPN.
- Works on Wi-Fi but not mobile data: check cellular restrictions and app network permissions.
- Fails on every device and network: suspect Twitch, the account, or the channel.
- Fails only in one browser: focus on extensions, cookies, and browser settings.
Check Twitch Status before making major changes. It reports separate conditions for login, web, chat, video watching, video broadcasting, and purchases. If Twitch reports a web or video incident, wait and retry later. Do not label Clips “down” without an official incident or reproducible failure across channels and networks.

- Confirm you are signed into the intended Twitch account.
- Test a second channel to distinguish channel rules from device problems.
- Check follower duration and subscriber-only requirements.

Streamer-specific checks
Open Creator Dashboard → Settings → Stream → Clips Settings. Confirm Enable Clips is on, remove the current category from Exclude Categories if appropriate, and remember Twitch’s stated DJ-program limitation. If only some viewers fail, review follower-duration, subscriber, and user-block settings rather than asking viewers to clear their browsers.
