Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If your YouTube lofi stream starts in sync but the audio gradually slips out, do not keep changing OBS sync offsets at random. First determine whether the delay is fixed or growing, then identify whether it affects OBS monitoring, the program output, a local recording, YouTube playback, or the VOD. Each pattern points to a different part of the signal path.
First determine whether the delay is fixed or accumulating
Compare a recognizable audio event near the beginning of the stream with the same kind of event later. For lofi, use a clear beat alongside a visible animation change, or add a deliberate test marker. Note when the mismatch first appears and how long the stream has been running.
- Fixed delay: the audio and picture are separated by roughly the same amount throughout. A source sync offset may address this stable relationship.
- Growing drift: the separation increases as the session continues. An offset may make one moment look right but will not correct a timing error that keeps accumulating.
Write down the OBS version, operating system, audio sources and devices, sample rates, routing and monitoring choices, and whether the problem occurs in a local recording or YouTube playback. Without those details and output comparisons, the root cause in a particular setup cannot be established.
Find which output is actually out of sync
Check each stage separately rather than treating everything you hear or see as the same output:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- OBS monitoring: listen through the configured monitoring device and compare it with a visual cue. If only monitoring drifts, investigate the monitor device and its routing before changing the stream mix.
- OBS program output: inspect the program view while the stream is running, but do not assume it proves that the recording and stream are also synchronized.
- Local recording: record while reproducing the issue, then review the file at the start and later in the session.
- YouTube playback or VOD: compare the platform output with the local recording and the same recognizable events. If the recording is in sync but YouTube playback is not, preserve both examples and investigate the output/platform path rather than blindly changing a local offset.
A 2023 OBS forum discussion describes one participant whose monitor device accumulated delay while stream and recording output behaved differently. That is a report from one setup, not a guarantee about OBS in general. Read the OBS forum discussion.
Inspect the audio chain and timing settings
Inventory sources and devices
List every source and route involved: music playback, microphone if present, capture-device audio, virtual audio routing, and the physical device used for monitoring. Note whether sources use separate USB devices or other independent hardware. Separate devices can have independent timing behavior; this is a possibility to test, not proof that a particular device is the cause.

Check sample rates and simplify routing as a test
Compare OBS’s audio sample-rate setting with the settings for the devices and software in the chain. Keep rates consistent where the controls allow it, then test again. YouTube’s recommendations for uploaded videos give 44.1 or 48 kHz as sample-rate options, but that upload guidance does not establish a live OBS fix. YouTube upload encoding recommendations.
If practical, simplify the chain for a controlled test: temporarily remove virtual routing or an extra device, or route several sources through one interface. A third-party OBS troubleshooting guide recommends consolidating sources through a single audio interface where practical; this is optional and depends on the setup, not a required purchase. Change one major variable at a time and record what changes. Third-party OBS audio troubleshooting guide.

Choose a fix that matches the symptom
| Observed pattern | What to investigate | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| The mismatch is stable and repeatable | A fixed timing relationship for the affected source or output | Adjust the relevant source’s sync offset, then verify in the output that matters. Do not copy another setup’s offset. |
| The mismatch grows during the session | Device timing, sample-rate consistency, buffers, routing, and system workload | Check OBS statistics and logs, simplify the audio chain as a controlled test, and change one major variable at a time. |
| Only OBS monitoring drifts | Monitoring device, monitor routing, buffering, or independent device timing | Test the monitoring path separately. The proposed explanations are hypotheses to check, not a confirmed universal cause. |
| Local recording is synchronized but YouTube playback is not | The platform/output path, rather than a local setting alone | Keep both examples and compare the same events before changing OBS settings. |
| OBS reports dropped frames | Stream delivery over the network | Treat this as a separate connection or bitrate-capacity issue; dropped frames alone do not establish the cause of audio drift. |
OBS forum participant AaronD suggested that variable, rather than constant, sync problems are often associated with mismatched audio refresh rates or an under-powered computer for the workload. That is community troubleshooting advice, not an official OBS diagnosis or proof of the cause in your stream. See the discussion.
A historical OBS GitHub issue reported a Windows 10 setup on OBS 26.0.2 where a 500 ms sync offset appeared to work in program view but not in stream or recording output until the value was re-entered after the stream started. It is version- and setup-specific evidence, not proof that current OBS versions have the same issue. Read the OBS issue.

Verify the change under the conditions that caused the drift
- Repeat the same long-session conditions that exposed the problem, including the same sources, routing, and monitoring setup.
- Make a local recording during the reproduction and review an event near the start and another later.
- Check the YouTube output or VOD as well as OBS’s preview; compare the same recognizable events.
- If you changed a device or driver, restart OBS and repeat the check.
A short test may miss a problem that appears only after a long run. The third-party troubleshooting guide likewise recommends reproducing the original trigger and reviewing output after changes; its estimate for how quickly checks identify a subsystem is not a guaranteed result.
