If your OBS stream drops when you switch from a mobile hotspot to broadband, first set OBS to use the default network interface, then check upload capacity on both connections and test the handoff in an unlisted broadcast. A single OBS session is not guaranteed to continue seamlessly through a network change: treat the hotspot-to-broadband transition as something to rehearse, not a failover feature.
Start with OBS’s network binding
- In OBS, open Settings → Advanced → Network.
- Set Bind to IP to Default. OBS recommends this setting for connection problems. If it was manually set to an address belonging to the old connection, that binding is one plausible cause to investigate; it is not a confirmed cause in every case. See OBS’s connection troubleshooting guide.
- Reproduce the problem in a test stream and watch OBS’s dropped-frame indicator and log. A connection drop that coincides with the switch is evidence to investigate the network path, not proof that the stream key is wrong.
YouTube’s stream key and stream URL identify and reach the stream destination; they do not choose which network interface the computer uses. Avoid resetting the key as a first-line response to a drop that occurs during a network switch. See YouTube’s live stream settings guidance.
Check whether both connections can carry the stream
Measure upload, not download
Test the actual upload capacity on the hotspot and broadband under the conditions you expect to stream in. Download speed alone does not show whether the encoder can send video reliably. Other devices and users sharing the connection can reduce the bandwidth available to OBS. YouTube advises leaving 20% headroom above the total stream bitrate; its streaming tips explain why the available upload matters.
Choose a bitrate the weaker connection can sustain
For a stream that may use either connection, use a conservative bitrate based on the weaker connection’s stable upload, not a brief peak. OBS describes 75% of total upload speed as a starting point, while YouTube separately publishes encoder recommendations by codec, resolution and frame rate. These are guidelines, not a guarantee that a connection will keep working during a route change. See OBS’s guidance and YouTube’s encoder settings.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
For H.264, YouTube’s current Help guidance gives these examples:
| Resolution and frame rate | Minimum bitrate | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
These are YouTube encoder recommendations, not measured hotspot or broadband speeds in India. If the weaker connection cannot sustain the rate with headroom, lower the bitrate or resolution and test again. Lowering bitrate can reduce picture quality; it cannot repair a complete loss of connectivity.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Use OBS congestion options as mitigations
OBS provides Dynamically change bitrate to manage congestion (Beta) under Settings → Advanced → Network. OBS says this can reduce bitrate when the connection cannot keep up, but warns it does not fix the underlying network issue and may reduce quality. Enable it only as a mitigation to test, not as a promise of uninterrupted streaming.
OBS also lists network optimizations and TCP pacing as options for Windows users. Some users report benefit, but these are tests rather than guaranteed fixes. The available settings and their effects can depend on your system; refer to OBS’s troubleshooting guide.

Rehearse the exact hotspot-to-broadband switch
- Create an unlisted YouTube test stream so a rehearsal does not become a public broadcast.
- Use representative audio, motion and scene changes. A static screen may not reveal the same problems as your real programme.
- Start streaming on the hotspot, switch to broadband as you normally would, and note whether OBS reconnects, drops frames or stops sending.
- Check the preview, stream health messages and audio/video quality in YouTube Live Control Room, alongside OBS’s dropped-frame count. YouTube recommends testing representative content and monitoring health; see its encoder settings and live streaming tips.
- Repeat under realistic conditions, including the devices and network use that will be present during the real stream. Do not rely on a single successful switch as proof that every handoff will work.
Understand what the network switch does—and does not—guarantee
Changing from a hotspot to broadband may change the computer’s active interface, route or local address. The official guidance does not promise that one OBS session will stay connected or reconnect seamlessly through this specific transition. YouTube describes a primary/backup encoder test only when a backup encoder has been set up: its checklist suggests stopping the primary encoder or unplugging its Ethernet cable to test the backup. That is configured encoder failover, not the same thing as changing the internet connection for one running OBS session.
For an important event, keep a local recording and consider a separately configured backup encoder if you need an operational fallback. Do not assume an Ethernet cable alone provides failover. It may make the broadband connection between a compatible computer and router wired rather than Wi-Fi, but it cannot guarantee a seamless move from hotspot to broadband.

If it still drops, check the rest of the connection
- VPN or security software: test whether either interferes with OBS’s connection, changing one setting at a time.
- Network-prioritization or optimization utilities: review whether such software is changing traffic or interface behavior.
- Wi-Fi, router or modem: check for unstable wireless service or equipment problems. If practical, connect the computer to the broadband router by Ethernet; use an adapter if the computer lacks a compatible port.
- Network drivers: check for updates from the computer or motherboard maker rather than relying on an unknown download source.
- ISP or carrier routing and congestion: if the local checks do not resolve it, ask your ISP or mobile carrier to investigate. Congestion or routing outside your control can affect the connection.
OBS notes that dropped frames or intermittent disconnections indicate a network issue between the computer and the remote stream ingest server. That points troubleshooting toward the connection, but the exact cause still has to be isolated. See OBS’s connection troubleshooting guide.
Or let it run in the cloud
