Five names feature on Reading Today’s December 2025 list of famous Reading FC supporters: Ricky Gervais, Chris Tarrant, Simon Gallup, The Amazons and Nicholas Hoult. “Famous” is a subjective selection, and the evidence is not equally strong for all five: The Amazons have a documented public relationship with the club, while several other claims rest mainly on reporting or local associations.
Who are the famous Reading FC supporters?
Reading Today’s December 2025 article names comedian and actor Ricky Gervais, television presenter Chris Tarrant, The Cure bassist Simon Gallup, rock band The Amazons and actor Nicholas Hoult. The list is best read as an attributed selection, not a definitive ranking of celebrity supporters or their devotion.
Ricky Gervais
Reading Today identifies Gervais as a Reading supporter and notes his local roots. Football Ground Guide also describes him as a Reading native and points to references to the town in his work. Fans have displayed a matchday banner featuring his The Office character David Brent, evidence of his place in Reading fan culture—but not, by itself, proof that Gervais attends matches or how often he supports the team in person. (Reading Today; Football Ground Guide)
Chris Tarrant
Reading Today reports that Tarrant grew up in Reading, has supported the club for years and has regularly attended home matches. A BBC News search result also surfaced an article titled “Chris Tarrant likes being one of the fans at Reading FC” from 2011. The attendance and long-term support claims should therefore be attributed to reporting rather than presented as a newly confirmed first-person account. (Reading Today; BBC News)
Simon Gallup
Reading Today reports that Gallup, bassist for The Cure, supports the Royals and has displayed a Reading flag at music festivals. A supporters’ forum account also recounts seeing a Reading FC flag at a Cure performance, but that is secondary evidence; it does not independently establish the extent of Gallup’s fandom. The Amazons
The Amazons, a rock band formed in Reading, have the clearest documented public connection with the club among these five. Football Ground Guide reports that all three members support Reading and notes that the band played the Purple Turtle stage outside the stadium after the 2025 takeover announcement. An interview describes the relationship developing over time, including a Reading FC kit launch and the club using the band’s song “Black Magic” as a walk-out track.
In the visible interview excerpt, a band member identified only as “M” said: “It’s been a gradual building of a relationship with the club, there are so many amazing people behind the scenes at the club and the fans of Reading F.C. are great.” The excerpt does not establish the speaker’s full name or role. The public club activity supports describing a relationship, but does not establish that it was a paid endorsement. (Football Ground Guide; Reading FC)

Nicholas Hoult
Reading Today says the actor grew up in Berkshire, has attended matches and has supported Reading online. No independent direct statement or first-party confirmation was identified alongside that claim, so it is more accurate to attribute it to Reading Today than to treat it as independently verified. How strong is the evidence for each claim?
The sources establish different kinds of public evidence, not a fair scale for measuring who is the most devoted fan.

A historically documented Reading supporter
For an earlier example, STAR’s Reading FC Hall of Fame records broadcaster John Arlott as a supporter from the 1920s onward and calls him the first well-known personality to speak publicly as a Reading fan. His history gives useful context beyond the recent five-name list. (STAR Reading FC Hall of Fame)
