Five famous QPR supporters stand out for more than a passing club association: comedian Bill Bailey has described choosing Rangers and attending his first Loftus Road match; musician Pete Doherty edited a QPR fanzine; and Michael Gove, Glen Matlock and Robert Smith have each been linked to the club through reported match-going, family history or public expressions of support.
The details below come from Tony Incenzo’s 888sport article, “Who Are The Most Famous QPR Fans?”, published on 7 October 2025. Incenzo is a QPR supporter, but the article is one secondary source; its reported observations and attributed quotations should be understood as such, rather than as independently verified records.
Bill Bailey: a West Londoner drawn to the underdogs
Bailey offers the clearest first-person explanation of why he supports QPR. Incenzo quotes the comedian saying: “I’ve lived in West London since 1984 so it had to be Rangers. I have a natural inclination to go with the underdogs.”
Bailey also recalls going to his first match at Loftus Road and becoming hooked. That combination—a stated reason for choosing the club and a memory of attending a game—makes his connection more specific than a celebrity simply being seen in QPR colours. The quote and recollection are presented by Incenzo; the original interview was not independently checked.

Pete Doherty: the QPR fanzine connection
Musician and songwriter Pete Doherty has a distinctive link to the club beyond wearing its colours: Incenzo reports that, when younger, Doherty edited and sold a QPR fanzine called All Quiet on the Western Avenue.
Incenzo also says Doherty regularly wears a replica QPR hooped shirt. The fanzine is the more unusual detail because it suggests direct involvement in supporter culture, while the shirt is a visible expression of allegiance. The article does not establish current merchandise availability or a current resale value for the fanzine.

Incenzo’s article says politician Michael Gove has attended Loftus Road with his son, was pictured jogging in a QPR hoodie, and posted “You RRRRs!” after an important win. Together, these reported details present both a match-going connection and a public expression of support.
The article is the source for these observations; the original photograph and social-media post were not independently examined. They are best described as reported evidence, not as separately verified documentation.

Glen Matlock: a family tradition dating to 1967
Glen Matlock, musician and original Sex Pistols bassist, traces his QPR support to his family. Incenzo quotes him saying: “My dad and both granddads went to QPR and I started supporting the club in 1967 when we won the old Third Division and the League Cup.”
Matlock’s account connects three generations of his family to the club and gives a year for when he began supporting Rangers. This is his recollection as quoted by Incenzo, rather than an independently established biography.

Smith also recalls beginning to go to Loftus Road during the Rodney Marsh era. His account, as reported by Incenzo, ties his support both to his father and to attending matches.

How to read these celebrity QPR connections
The five profiles are supported in different ways: Bailey and Matlock offer attributed first-person explanations; Smith describes a family connection and match-going; Doherty is linked to a supporter fanzine and QPR clothing; and Gove’s profile is based on reported clothing, attendance and a post. Those are different kinds of evidence, not a ranking of who is the “realest” fan.
Incenzo’s article names other public figures as QPR supporters, including actor Robin Askwith, columnist Giles Coren, referee Mark Halsey, newsreader Mary Nightingale, BBC reporter Hugh Pym, singer Andrew Ridgeley, broadcaster Louis Theroux and comedian Seann Walsh. The five above are highlighted here because the article gives particularly explicit details about their connections.
For source context, Incenzo’s author biography says he had reached 50 years without missing a QPR home game in April 2023. That perspective helps explain his familiarity with the club, but does not turn the article’s anecdotes into independent corroboration.
