They confirm selected results, including Sting’s 1992 victories, but do not provide a complete match history or define whether “defeat” includes count-outs, tag matches, and other outcomes.
What the documented results show
The records support several specific outcomes, but they do not establish a complete sequence of Vader’s earliest losses. The table separates dated match results from championship-history and tag-team information that cannot identify an individual match winner.
| Record | What is established | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Sting vs. Vader, January 27, 1992 | A match-history database records Sting defeating Vader by count-out. | Whether count-outs belong in a proposed list limited to decisive finishes such as pinfall or submission. |
| Sting vs. Vader, July 12, 1992 | The WCW event-results archive and WWE’s archived results agree that Sting defeated Vader for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship at the Great American Bash. | Where this match falls among all of Vader’s career losses. |
| Vader’s WCW title history in 1992 | A wrestler-history profile records Vader losing the WCW World Heavyweight Championship to Ron Simmons, as well as later title losses to Sting and Ric Flair. | A complete dated list of the opponents who beat him, or the methods and match types for every loss. |
| IWGP tag-title loss | A profile mentions Vader and Bam Bam Bigelow losing the titles to the Steiner Brothers. | Which Steiner scored the deciding fall, or whether this team result should count as an individual wrestler defeating Vader. |
Why “defeat” changes the answer
A chronological list needs a consistent rule for what counts as a loss. Including every match result could admit count-outs and tag-team bouts; restricting the list to singles matches or to pinfall and submission victories would produce a different set of names. The January count-out recorded for Sting illustrates the distinction.
Championship changes are not a substitute for match-by-match results. A title history can confirm that a champion changed, but it does not necessarily identify every Vader loss, the finish, or the date needed to order all candidates. A team title loss also cannot automatically be assigned to one member of the opposing team.

What a reliable first-ten list would need
To publish the requested ranking responsibly, the underlying record would need dated match outcomes across Vader’s promotions and a stated inclusion rule. Each candidate should then be checked against the match details, rather than inferred from a championship résumé or rivalry summary.
- Match date and promotion
- Match type: singles, tag team, or multi-person
- Result method: pinfall, submission, count-out, disqualification, or another outcome
- A record that identifies the winning wrestler or team and supports the result
Without that complete, consistently scoped record, naming ten people—or assigning Sting, Ron Simmons, or the Steiner Brothers a precise place in the sequence—would go beyond what these documented results establish.
