He expects solitude. Instead, he discovers that people in suicidal crisis come to the area, and his isolation is interrupted by repeated encounters, local relationships, and the return of Sia, a former love.
The film is most successful as a warm, music-led portrait of Cyprus and a story about second chances. It is less consistent when it shifts between breezy romantic comedy and serious material about grief, regret, and suicide.

What is Find Me Falling about?
John Allman is a successful American musician whose latest album has failed. Rather than face another professional disappointment—or the people and memories connected to his past—he withdraws to a remote home on Cyprus. His retreat is meant to be private and restorative, but the location has an alarming reputation: people in crisis come to the cliff intending to jump.
John’s new circumstances make complete withdrawal impossible. He encounters local residents, becomes involved in situations he did not seek out, and reconnects with Sia, an old flame. The story gradually turns his physical retreat into an emotional one: John has gone to Cyprus to escape his life, but the island keeps bringing him back into contact with other people.
The cliff premise was inspired by filmmaker Stelana Kliris’s awareness of stories about Don Ritchie, an Australian man who lived near Sydney’s Gap, a notorious suicide location, and tried to help people in distress by speaking with them. In Kliris’s account, the idea was not simply to create an unusual comic setting. It was intended to explore human connection and the possibility that helping someone else can restore a person’s own sense of humanity.
That real-world inspiration should not be confused with a claim that John’s fictional house is a direct recreation of a particular Cypriot suicide site. The film uses the premise as part of its fictional story, and it should be discussed carefully rather than presented as picturesque entertainment.

Cast and characters
| Actor | Character | Role in the story |
|---|---|---|
| Harry Connick Jr. | John Allman | An American rock musician trying to recover from a professional failure and personal withdrawal. |
| Agni Scott | Sia | John’s former love, whose return gives the romance its unresolved emotional history. |
| Ali Fumiko Whitney | Melina | A young local character who recognizes John as a musician and connects with the film’s musical and intergenerational strands. |
| Tony Demetriou | Captain Manoli | A local police captain who explains the cliff’s reputation and becomes part of John’s new social world. |
| Clarence Smith | Jimmy | John’s manager. |
The supporting cast includes Lea Maleni, Aggeliki Filippidou, and Athina Roditou. Transliterations of some names vary between film databases, so Netflix’s spellings are the most useful reference for a reader trying to identify the ensemble.
Connick Jr. is particularly important to the film’s design because John is not merely a musician in the backstory: he performs and writes music within the story. Kliris has said that Connick’s experience as both an actor and a musician made him an obvious choice for the role.
Who wrote and directed Find Me Falling?
Stelana Kliris wrote and directed the film. It was produced by Meraki Films and is identified by Cyprus’s Cinema Office as a 2024 fiction feature made by Cyprus and the United States. Production listings also name Keith Arnold, Kliris, and Steve Shapiro as producers, with Jupiter Peak Productions, Das Films, Uinta Productions, Green Olive Films, and Meraki Films among the production companies.
Rank #2
Kliris is a South African-born Greek Cypriot filmmaker who returned to live in Cyprus. That background informs the film’s perspective. John is an outsider arriving on the island, while Kliris brings both familiarity with Cyprus and some distance from it to the story. She has described the movie as a “love letter” to Cyprus, but not as a conventional tourism advertisement.

The film was shot in Cyprus during 2022. Production ran from approximately May through September, with about two weeks in and around Peyia—also spelled Pegeia—and Paphos, followed by roughly four weeks based in Nicosia.
- Peyia/Pegeia and Paphos: These western Cyprus locations provide much of the film’s coastal atmosphere and cliffside visual identity.
- Nicosia: The capital served as a major production base and contributes a different urban texture from the coastal settings.
- Paphos Castle area: Location reporting identifies the area as one of the recognizable places associated with the production.
- Titsiros/Pezounospilioi Beach: The east-coast beach was among the locations discussed in production coverage.
The filmmakers originally considered shooting at an Akrotiri cliff location, but restrictions led them to change plans. That practical decision is a reminder that the movie’s Cyprus setting is assembled from multiple places rather than being a single continuous landscape.
For travelers, the film can be a useful starting point for researching a Cyprus travel guide, but viewers should not assume that every shot represents the immediate surroundings of John’s fictional home. The production moved between regions, and the story’s geography serves the drama as much as it documents a specific itinerary.
The music in Find Me Falling
Music is part of the film’s structure, not just background decoration. John’s identity, career disappointment, and attempted recovery are all tied to performance. Harry Connick Jr. wrote two songs specifically for the film:
- “Girl on the Beach” represents John’s earlier hit and his established musical identity.
- “Find Me Falling” is the title song and the film’s principal ballad.
The soundtrack also draws on Greek and Cypriot-associated music. Songs listed in soundtrack reporting include “Stalia Stalia,” “S’Agapo Giati Eisai Oraia,” “Pefteis Se Lathoi,” “Alla Mou Len Ta Matia Sou,” and “Oti Itane.” The film also uses music by the Cypriot group Monsieur Doumani, including “Antics” and “Woman From Tylliria.” Performances are attributed in soundtrack listings to Ali Fumiko Whitney, Harry Connick Jr., Dena Kyriakidi, and Monsieur Doumani.
The score is credited in production listings to Carlos José Alvarez, with Joel C. High credited as music supervisor in soundtrack reporting.
There is an important purchasing caveat: research did not verify an official physical soundtrack CD, vinyl release, or title-specific Amazon soundtrack listing. A Bandcamp album with a similar title is an unrelated San Diego rock release from January 2025, so it should not be treated as the movie’s soundtrack.
Is Find Me Falling a lighthearted romantic comedy?
It is marketed and categorized as a romantic comedy, and it has the expected ingredients: an attractive Mediterranean setting, a past romance, music, local characters, and a protagonist who needs to open himself to life again. But calling it purely lighthearted would be misleading.
The film repeatedly moves between two registers:
- Escapist romance: John and Sia’s history, the Cyprus locations, performances, and the possibility of reconciliation.
- Serious emotional drama: suicidal crisis, isolation, regret, grief, and the responsibility of responding to another person’s pain.
That contrast appears intentional, but the execution has divided viewers. RogerEbert.com criticized the treatment of the suicide subplot as glib and argued that it interrupts the film’s intended escapism. Rotten Tomatoes’ critical coverage likewise describes an uneven film whose dramatic material is not always developed convincingly. Recurring objections include thin conflicts, limited chemistry between the romantic leads, and difficulty balancing somber scenes with comedy.
The fairest expectation is therefore not “a carefree beach romance.” Find Me Falling is a gentle, sometimes whimsical romance with a serious and potentially unsettling premise underneath it.
Is Find Me Falling worth watching?
It is worth trying if you want a music-led romance with a strong Cyprus setting and do not mind tonal roughness. The film offers a distinctive location, a sincere interest in connection and second chances, Harry Connick Jr.’s musical presence, and a local ensemble that gives the story a sense of place.
It may be a poor fit if you want a consistently light romantic comedy, a tightly plotted drama, or a deeply realistic treatment of suicidal crisis. The premise raises serious questions that the film does not always answer with the depth or tonal care some viewers will expect.
At the time covered by the research, Rotten Tomatoes listed the film at 43% from 28 critics and a 66% audience score from more than 250 ratings. IMDb displayed a rating of approximately 6.3/10 from around 14,000 votes. These figures change as new users and reviews are added, so they should be treated as a snapshot rather than a permanent verdict.
Rank #4
In short, the film’s strengths are its Mediterranean atmosphere, music, local flavor, and accessible second-chance premise. Its weaknesses are an uneven tone, underdeveloped emotional conflicts, and a difficult subject that can feel out of step with the surrounding romantic-comedy treatment.

The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Find Me Falling is an appealing but uneven Cyprus-set romantic comedy. Watch it for the island’s atmosphere, Harry Connick Jr.’s music, and its story of reconnection; approach it with the understanding that suicide and emotional crisis sit uneasily alongside the film’s breezy romantic tone.
