A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11For most creators who want to loop local videos on YouTube Live, OBS is easier to set up: add a VLC Video source, select the playlist files, and enable Loop Playlist. FFmpeg is a better fit if you are comfortable building and maintaining commands and want a scriptable workflow. Neither has an established India-specific advantage; your choice comes down to setup style, media compatibility, and how you will monitor the stream.
OBS or FFmpeg: which should you choose?
| Decision | OBS | FFmpeg |
|---|---|---|
| Playlist setup | Graphical setup with a VLC Video source and a Loop Playlist option. VLC must be installed; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. | Configure concatenation using FFmpeg methods and command options. The right method depends on the files and whether you need to re-encode. |
| Best suited to | Creators who prefer configuring sources and scenes in an application. | Creators who are comfortable maintaining command-line workflows and want repeatable operation. |
| YouTube ingest | YouTube lists OBS among encoders that support HLS output. Confirm the protocol and settings in YouTube Live Control Room. | Confirm that the chosen FFmpeg output matches the protocol and settings in YouTube Live Control Room. |
| Reliability | Depends on the computer, media, upload connection, and monitoring. | Depends on the same factors: computer, media, upload connection, and monitoring. |
No comparative stability or performance test establishes that one encoder is more reliable or faster. In India, as elsewhere, local network quality, power continuity, and channel eligibility can affect the broadcast; the official guidance does not identify a country-specific technical advantage for either encoder.
Set up a multi-file playlist in OBS
- Install VLC. OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC. Match architectures: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. See the OBS Media Sources documentation.
- Add the playlist source. In OBS, add a VLC Video source, choose the video files for your playlist, and arrange them in the intended order.
- Check looping and playback. Confirm Loop Playlist is enabled (OBS documents it as on by default), then preview the source and verify that files play in the desired sequence.
- Check the outgoing feed. In YouTube Live Control Room, confirm the stream key and selected ingest protocol, start the encoder, and preview the incoming feed before you make the event public.
A single OBS Media Source can loop one file using its Loop property. That is different from using a VLC Video source to play a multi-file playlist.
Build an FFmpeg playlist workflow
FFmpeg supports more than one way to concatenate files, and there is no single playlist command that safely applies to every set of videos. First check whether the files have compatible stream parameters and decide whether avoiding a re-encode matters.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Use the concat filter when you need to re-encode; FFmpeg’s FAQ recommends this approach for that case.
- Consider the concat demuxer when the inputs are suitable and you want to avoid re-encoding. Compatibility between the files affects whether this works.
Consult the FFmpeg FAQ for the distinction between these methods, then verify your output against the ingest protocol selected in Live Control Room. Test the playlist and the complete outgoing feed before relying on it for a long broadcast.
Meet YouTube’s ingest and connection requirements
Choose the protocol in YouTube Live Control Room and configure the encoder to match it. If you select HLS, YouTube’s HLS setup guidance specifies the following requirements:

Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Use TS segments that are 1–4 seconds long.
- Use a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments.
- Send segments using HTTPS POST/PUT.
- Use supported codecs and confirm the actual protocol and settings in Live Control Room.
YouTube says HLS has higher latency than RTMP. YouTube lists OBS as supporting HLS output; do not assume a particular FFmpeg command or output is compatible without checking it against your chosen protocol and settings.
For either encoder, YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the total stream bitrate. This is YouTube’s recommendation on its Streaming tips page, not a measured guarantee that a particular connection will remain stable. Preview the feed and monitor it throughout the event; see YouTube’s live-streaming guidance.

Plan for eligibility, rights, and long archives
Check channel eligibility
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. Review the current requirements in Get started with live streaming before scheduling a broadcast.
Clear the rights to every item in the playlist
You are responsible for having the necessary rights to the video and audio you stream, including music. YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions state: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.”

Separate a continuous live feed from an archived recording
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. If keeping a replay matters, plan for a local recording backup or a suitable restart schedule instead of assuming YouTube will retain the entire broadcast. See Archive live streams.

| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| OBS cannot use the VLC Video source as expected | VLC is missing or its architecture does not match OBS. | Install VLC and ensure 64-bit OBS is paired with 64-bit VLC. |
| The playlist does not repeat | Loop Playlist is off, or the wrong source type is being used. | Check Loop Playlist on the VLC Video source. A Media Source’s Loop property applies to one file. |
| FFmpeg concatenation fails or produces an unsuitable output | The files may not have compatible stream parameters, or the chosen concat method may not suit the need to re-encode. | Check file compatibility and choose between the concat filter for re-encoding and the concat demuxer for suitable no-re-encode cases. |
| YouTube does not accept the incoming feed | The encoder’s output may not match the selected protocol or ingest requirements. | Check the stream key and protocol in Live Control Room. For HLS, verify TS format, segment length, rolling-playlist limit, HTTPS method, and supported codecs. |
| The feed is unstable or drops | Possible contributing factors include the host computer, media, upload connection, or insufficient upload headroom. | Check the source and connection, leave YouTube’s recommended 20% bandwidth headroom, and monitor the preview and live feed. |
| A long broadcast has no complete replay | A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured automatically by YouTube. | Use a local recording backup or plan a restart if retaining the archive is important. |
