Missy Peregrym described caregiving as fulfilling for Maggie, but the demands of the job leave her wondering whether she is doing enough. The interview does not confirm that Maggie leaves the Bureau or starts a new romance.
What is Maggie’s major Season 7 plot update?
Maggie is weighing her future at the FBI as she takes on the responsibility of caring for Ella. In a September 16, 2024, TV Insider interview, Peregrym said Maggie loves Ella, feels fulfilled caring for her, and wants to give her stability and joy. At the same time, the demands of the job create conflict and self-doubt: Maggie is asking herself whether she is doing enough.
Showrunner Mike Weiss described the practical tension as Maggie balancing the new responsibility with her duties to Special Agent in Charge Isobel Castille and her work partner, OA. The update is therefore a character story about caregiving and competing priorities, rather than a confirmed change in Maggie’s employment.
Why is Maggie caring for Ella?
Ella is the young daughter of Jessica Blake, Maggie’s late friend and colleague. Maggie has become her guardian, adding a family responsibility to the work she already does as an FBI agent. CBS’s Season 7 episode guide makes that balance explicit in episode 6, “Perfect,” describing Maggie as juggling her roles as Ella’s guardian and an FBI agent: CBS’s FBI episode guide.

Does Maggie leave the FBI in Season 7?
The interview does not say that Maggie resigns or leaves the Bureau. It describes her uncertainty about whether she can meet both Ella’s needs and the demands of her job. That is a question about Maggie’s priorities and future, not confirmation of an exit.
Does the update confirm a romance?
No. Peregrym’s interview raises romance as a possible open thread, but it does not establish a partner or a romantic outcome for Maggie. The concrete plot update is her struggle to balance caring for Ella with FBI work.

Where this update fits in Season 7
Season 7 aired in 2024–25. Episode 6 centers on Maggie’s two roles as guardian and agent; later, episode 16, “Covered,” puts her undercover work at risk after multiple undercover agents’ identities are compromised. The finale, “A New Day,” follows a rogue terrorist group infiltrating the FBI. These are separate developments in the season, not evidence that Maggie’s caregiving dilemma has been resolved.
The headline refers to a Season 7 preview, not a current-season announcement. Paramount Press Express described FBI as being in its ninth season in a July 2026 profile: Paramount Press Express cast profile.
